No one is serious about saving racers money. Rules resets benefit those with the most resources. While the creators have it figured out, the unwashed masses beg for the know how. If you want to slow a car, would you dynamically lower the spoiler a few inches or take the thing off? All these silly little tweaks are silly.

I mean why were wide bore engines ever allowed? Even worse, while simultaneously allowing the bodies to turn into wedges.

But wedges look cool! (at least that's what people said during the bodies getting out of hand debates for at least the last 5 years) And you need that wide bore engine to race the clock! Nobody wants to RACE anymore. (People they call racers say they have to much money invested not be allowed to race a clock)

MBR nailed it, you cant let the aero get out of hand, or the engines will come into more relevance. No need for 900 HP if you cant use it, but when you can you need it, like Matt49 said before, when the track is ripe you need the power, if you don't have it your a sitting Duck. You go and add wedge car bodies to the mix and you make the more applicable even in the slick.

All you have to do is regulate the bodies, it really is that simple.

          Just say no...

Most knowlegeable people seen the direction we were headed years ago. That's why bodies have been discussed ad nauseam on here. It's only now starting to catch up with the guys who always had the money to compete. Those guys just kept their mouth shut and went about their business. Now we are starting to see some of those guys come out. I still wonder if anything will be done though. I mean there are ways to make guys forget what's going on. One of the biggest names that came out against the #ModernDayWedge has gone from retired race to the new technical director of one of the national series that has allowed these things to get to the point they are now. Will they finally do something or is it just window dressing like that "cost saving" test session they ran a few years ago? I guess only time will tell.

It always cracked me up when people were having a legitimate debate about the bodies and the downforce/aero problem contributing to cost the best the other side could come up with is but they look cool! Or if you can't afford it you should quit! LOL Just like the argument you can't stop technology we should just go with no rules and run with what you brung. Imagine if those guys were around the first time the wedge bodies were done away with SMH

They took away the wing on sprint cars once. They even wanted to take the cadge. They put them back on for safety, forget the HP it takes to push one. No money saved either. This kinda stuff has been going on forever.

Have a good weekend guys. Right now I am preparing to pay our race teams over $200,000 in point money so I am signing off for a couple weeks. One week to write them all and do the banquet and the next week to take a deep breath and wonder why I did LOL.

They sure do, Mike. Back in the 60s they not only wanted to do away with the wing, but the cage also. The high point was the helmet. They seemed to think drivers didn't have respect for other drivers if they couldn't get hurt. The cage also made for a lot of forearm and wrist injuries. It was the reason for wrist restraints to be invented. They found out that the wing offered a lot of cushion to the tumble buggies. To a lot of old timers, it just wasn't tradition.

And what a lame reason at that...they look cool...15-20 years ago they looked cool then too...these unsymmetrical twisted up things with a big cow catcher on the front 10-15 years from now we will look back and think these are the ugliest late models in history...

Your argument was the put the wings back on because of safety. Apparently they don’t feel it’s as big of a safety issue as you or some others do.

I’m not even sure what your point about arm restraints are. Sure some things are done for safety. Things like on board fire suppression ect. I don’t think anyone is advocating doing away with safety items. We are talking about addressing the out of control bodies. You don’t have to take the roof off or get rid the #ModernDayWedge.

I don't understand the folks that say they love racing , but only love x y or z racing........about the only racing I don't enjoy is the racing to punch a key so that you can tell other people what to do or how to act like some of the school marms infesting these racing boards.

I enjoy some better than others......dirt racing versus asphalt for example, but I still enjoy asphalt if I'm there.

I like everything about what Stan attempts to do with his series and am particularly impressed every time I run up on an ultimate event with how they run the show and the racing their teams produce.........are they always right, nope....sometimes a little radical with the thinking, yep......I like it and applaud them for being fluid and not stuck in the ( because that's the way it's always been done )stench of yesteryear.

I saw about 30 dirt events last year from woo,ultimate,Lucas,clash,fastrack,etc......Best racing I saw last year btw was some really great pure stock racing in NC.....some excellent drag boat racing in SC and that show at screven last year was a complete package for anyone that just loves the competition side of racing., mini lates on the go cart track were surprisingly good.

I'm old school, just not an old school marm about it.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

If your talking about my post, I'm not really trying to make a point, other than silly rules have been made before, yet no one learns from it. I like open wheel racing. These rules, I was talking about happened in the 1960s. If we don't learn from those stick your finger in the dike rules, we just run out of fingers.
