I'd love to hear what 1/2 point of compression will do, especially in a modern combustion chamber with the BxS ratios we have today. Say a 430, D3 chamber 14.7 vs 15.2. Which one can make more power? How does that transfer to the track?Originally posted by UMPDream View PostYou mean, 3 years ago assembling an engine using Clements top end? Is that the home built your speaking of? I give the guy an enormous amount of respect for going outside of the box. For example, sure you can buy the "production" motor that many sell to the "local" guys but guess what, you aren't getting the good stuff unless you have the connections and I don't care what they tell you about your $42+ bill. If you want an edge today, you better have what they Dont Have! Care to guess what a 1/2 point of compression will do? And that's just one small variable. Another example, let the entire field go buy XR1's and then go cry to the shock guy or dig and dig for info from everyone. If you want to win, you have to do it yourself and find your own speed.

Yup, the Buick stuff has always had excellent valvetrains, that's why you'd see a bunch of destroked Buicks in SS and Stock.Originally posted by davis2902 View PostClements use to build a lethal 358 Buick head motor in the 90's. Won tons of races and you had to turn it in the 9000 rpm range.

You'll really mess em up when you start relying on facts! I have an old one in a 71 GS455, neat old motor but the 3 inch main journal really kills them on rpm. The new Buick motors are chevy with diff part numbers so not really a big deal if you understand that kind of stuff.
