Low car count should we be concerned this early in the season

Carolina clash 5000 to win won by Davenport 14 cars started. 6400 hundred to win for Ray cook race at Toccoa won by Ricky Weiss 17 car started I know it's early but if this trend continues it's going to be a long boring season for supers in the south.

I know here in Ohio Eldora had 16 to 40 cars for their ALMS races and this year they pay 5,000 to win and now have the rules the same as Lucas and Woo and all. So that will be the true test in Ohio

Super are dying mostly because of price.
Go back to the rules of 20 years ago and you might get guys to come back.
There is not need for all this bull crap ingenuity in a frame.
Make a basic frame that is safe and good to drive and many folks could afford.
The sport as a whole need to be fun for most folks to want to continue to race.
I personally believe the cars of the late 80's thought the mid 90's where the best.
Most guys could afford to compete and there where good car counts.
Some times you have to go backwards to go forwards if you get what I'm saying.
Just because it's nice and shiny, new or different doesn't mean you need it.
Learn to drive the car you got and how it works the best.
Like this - no need for a ugly plastic $500 nose piece when you can make a sheet metal one for about 1/3 to maybe 1/2 the price.
You want to save some money here is a start.
Put some old fashion work into it.
My own 2 cents some of the rules are a joke as well.

all the different tires, rules, and classes of lates, that seems to be the problem to me, there are alot of crate guys spending enough to run super, have one late model class, PERIOD, there are plenty of lower classes if its not in the budget, hell I've heard of 25-30 thousand dollar street cars

I will agree with this. Guys and ladies spending anything over $7K - $8K for a street stock is absolutely ridiculous to start with.

Put 'em all in one class and run a b-main. 30-40 car fields if you combine open, 602's and 604's. If the A-main pays $750 pay the B-main $400.

Spread the points around enough to enable a guy who does well in his heats and the B-main to have a shot at finishing high in the points.

When we ran back in the 60's and early 70's we had guys running 5 nights per week and the guy who won a lot of b-mains and heats could win the championship. Consistency made the difference. Qualifying was important, too. If you missed your quick lap you could make up for it in the heat.

Pay $$$ in the heats, too.

Shawano got a ton of heat a few years ago when they combined several different engine packages into the SLM's. You can run a crate, IMCA modified, WISSOTA/WDLMA or open motor w/restricter. Sure the open motors dominate but many guys are running the WISSOTA 362 engines and doing OK.

Decent 13 degree super engines bring $10k on the used market. You do the math. Nobody wants them. Why? Supers are dead.

I have always argued that. Problem is now know how and $$ weigh on people's minds.

The problem with any form of racing is that you can't put the innovation genie back in the bottle. People will never stop innovating in their pursuit of that extra hundredth of a second, and those with the deepest pockets see no problem with how much money it costs. It's part of the reason NASCAR is in the shape it's in.
