Yeah, you may see a time where NASCAR is fielding 32 cars max.
They had a great segment on Nascar America the other night. Suggestions on how to fix it.
More short tracks, different tracks, not so many 1 1/2 mile tracks.
I love the idea of the "Roval" at Charlotte. I say if it works well, that each year, at least one of the 1 1/2 mile tracks convert one of their races to this.

There was a day when a full field of cars at tracks less than 1 mile in length consisted of anywhere from 31 to 36 cars. All the tracks longer than 1 mile had 40 car starting lineups. It was only when TV and the money became a major factor did NASCAR go to the 43 car fields on all tracks. I think NASCAR should go to back to the 32 car fields on the short tracks but they won't due to sponsors and the fact that the top 35 in owner points are locked in.

Cost to attend the races and all the silly and confusing gimmickry have just about killed the golden goose. I for one am saddened because many of us can remember when NASCAR was as good as it gets!

I know this has been beat to death but I firmly believe that if NASCAR scheduled the Cup cars on a dirt track like Springfield and/or Du Quoin, Illinois they'd easily sell out 120,000 seats and it would be by far the most popular race of the season, year in, year out. Won't happen but it's fun to imagine!

Could you dig up the info on what it would cost to run the full Lucas Oil Tour? that would be an interesting read.

Its unreal how much the costs is on the NASCAR front. Sounds like its well on its way to obscurity.

        Just say no...

A few things NASCAR could do to improve things are
          1. More Short Tracks and Road Racing.
          2. Shorter Races
          3. Less Total Races

          A 24 race schedule with
          (4) Super Speedways
          (4) Road Courses
          (8) Short Tracks
          (2) 2 Mile D-Shapes
          (2) 1 mile ovals
          (4) 1.5 Mile tracks.

Where are you going to get these tracks? Are they still going to certain tracks multiple times? Sure there is tracks out there but remember they don't have enough accommodations and roads to handle the large amount of people for events. That's one reason why Kentucky never got a actual NASCAR cup date until just recently. Same thing with I think Iowa Speedway for example. Cup guys have said they'd love to race there but can't. The Xfinity and truck teams race there but they don't draw the crowds like the actual cup series would.

NASCAR killed NASCAR when they replaced most of the short tracks & 1-milers with 1.5 milers.

NASCAR has a cancer and is dying a slow death. Chemo and radiation will work for a while but ultimately..............

It's not been this way in probably 8 years.
They do have new lock in system where 36 charter teams are locked in regardless of where they are in points.

I don't know that Cup on a dirt mile would be all that. First couple years would be big crowds... but I'm just not convinced it'd be that great a race and keep people coming back.

I think it's better off to run at Eldora or Knoxville. The shorter tracks I think would bring better likelihood of good racing and keeping everyone close.
I don't know how many Knoxville seats; but Eldora would need more seats. But if you could get 50,000 seats that you can sell out every year at average price of $120 (ouch I know, but probably close to realistic) that would bring in 6 million dollars, and then you factor in TV money, and concessions... that might be enough to make it viable. (But it'd be a skin of teeth really.)

How is that going to work at a place out in the sticks. I just made a comment on post #20. Here it is again

most of the Cookey 1.5 tracks just bad racing.. Dig them up make 1 mile and 2 mile tracks would help..and the yellow flag at the end of stage, have the stage for points but dump the yellow and let them race.

One lucas team spent 64k just on TARS. The purple army are getting rich off of this sport, there is no doubt about that.

                              Wow 64K, dam.

Lucas Oil, per their website say 4.7mil up for grabs, on 61 A Main events.

Say 3 or 4 XR1 or Longhorns 50k each, trimmed out. Thats 200K

4 min Ry-45 Fords probably around 50k each, thats 200k

A Hauler for the road, new about 300k?

                              Fuel and Oil 15K

Wheels, spare parts etc etc 50k?

Crew costs, no idea, but say 2 guys full time 130k? Plus the Drivers deal, no idea.

Entry fees, pit passes etc? 10k?

Were close to a million to 1.5 million bucks. Thats no shop to work on the cars, and tools, pit lifts etc etc etc.

I just wonder how much the bigger sponsors really kick in to help these Teams along, and how much can be won. The math dont look to bad, considering Nascar LOL but its still alot on the line.

I am sure i am way off, but its ballpark ish.

                              Just say no...

That's true for some places, but you can't get much better in Iowa than Iowa Speedway. It's right off of interstate and the parking is really easy. There is an airstrip next to the track big enough for private planes and you're close to Des Moines for commercial flights.
