Wow what an Interview by Tony Izzo Jr on Dirt late Model Live right now!

Couple quick ?'s.

1) Have you ever attended a race at LaSalle?
2) Do you know Mr. Izzo?

Full disclosure...I have never been to a race at LaSalle. Bought tix and hotel room back in 2011, the year the Illini was slated to be there and Mother Nature won. Will try again this summer.

I do not know Mr. Izzo and have never met him.

Curious, how long you've personally known the man as to know his intentions and state he's playing the "sympathy" card in an attempt to dismiss his comments about hoping to keep the place open.

I'd also really like to hear more about all the work/sacrifices you've personally made to promote dirt late model racing in Illinois/Wisconsin.

Be glad you have a joint like I-80 in your neck of the woods that is doing well. Lot of people losing $$ across the country trying to keep the pit gates open.

Every March Izzo gives an interview with Rigsby. And in every interview he’s always playing the sympathy card. Whether it was the Richards deal or what’s he saying now. Every time something controversial happens and he’s involved. It’s never his fault according to him.

It has nothing to do with promoting or passion or sacrifices. To be honest Mr Izzos interviews have actually turned me off from ever going to LaSalle. He sounds so dull and doom/gloom. Every year I think he’s lost his best dog.

The promoter at I-80 would be 6 feet under before he said anything about the track closing if a certain race didn’t do well. Just saying.....

To me Tony is the best promoter interview in dirt racing. The one guy that absolutely knows what he is talking about because he's been there and done that. His passion for dirt racing is about as deep as anyone I know. If there is one person that truly cares about the sport as a whole it's Tony Izzo Jr. In my opinion Tony is a real promoter in every definition of the word. If you ask him a question or his opinion you will get the truth as he see's it with out any b.s.

We have to find a way to reduce expenses.

Thank you Tony for keeping LaSalle Speedway open and being a part in helping keep the sport going.

Well said Nathan. I'll continue to support Tony and LaSalle anyway possible. Izzo is a true ambassador of our sport. We need more dedicated guys like this if we want to see DLM racing survive.
Hoping this weekend helps. I'll be their no matter how cold it gets. One day, that opportunity may not exist.

Huskerdirt - it's obvious you've never been to a track in this area over the last 8-10 yeàrs. That interview with Tony was being honest. There are not a lot of race cars in this are any more. What's funny is LaSalle is one of the best tracks around in terms of over all racing. The car counts around here have been dwindling for the last 15 years and there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it. I can understand where he is coming from. Guys are getting out if racing mostly due to the rising cost, health concerns, family, and a few other factors.

LaSalle is a great track, nice grandstands and amenities. I like the shape of the track as well, nice true oval. The only thing i will dig on is the surface will get a little rough here and there, but its a great place to see a race !

I didn't hear him ask for sympathy. He asked for fans to support him. The deal with Driggers last year, had to put LaSalle in a deep hole. If LaSalle closes, blame it on WRG. You know the organization that is supposed to work with tracks to help them keep the door open. If it closes, I doubt it will be a race track for long. The land is too valuable to other concerns and money talks. This is not a fairgrounds, so there isn't a bail out.

The penalty for letting Richards race was to kill the LaSalle track and it was much too harsh to be handed out by someone that is supposed to be working with you. They did nothing to Driggers, for handling it so poorly, yet take a man's livelihood away. Remember, Josh Richards was not banned from UMP. This was about a car ownership or lend lease deal.

I haven't been feeling too well, but I'll go support LaSalle if I can.

I guess that article that inside dirt track did, lot people in this thread fall under negative social media hurts tracks. What makes even funner is some don't even pay for dod to hear what he said and reply back with garbage.

50 mins from my house I would sure hate to lose the option of going there. Walking up the main grandstand and watching the cars throw it into turn 1 during hot laps will make hair stand up on your arms. Feel like you're literally on top of the track

I love racing, but being at a race track when it's 30 degrees outside isn't fun. The tracks are also rarely in a good shape this early in the year and I don't like watching people tear up equipment. Maybe LaSalle is different. I've never been to that track.

Wasn't there some tracks that used to start after Mother's Day around the central part of the country? I thought maybe Fairbury used to be this way but could be wrong on that.

Fairbury has a very short season.
