Look at the new one Volusia put up over the winter!

Very impressive and no problems this year during Speedweeks.

Tracks need to take a good look at their layouts, and not wait till something bad happens. Hindsight is 20/20 but a little foresight wouldn't hurt!

Im surprised some pass inspections for their general liability policies!

Lolol maybe materials and tubing that catch the car and absord impact? Not heavy steel I beams and wood panels thats can break and impale someone? I dont even know how to respond to that.

I think this is the second time this sort of tragedy has happened to Jason's wife. She was with Kevin gobrect at the time he lost his life in Nebraska's I 80 speedway...

I posted this in another thread awhile back. I would say a fence like the one Eldora has would've kept that car on the track. Considering he was at the front the pack, it wouldve still been a bad crash none the less. But I'd take my chances of kept in the race track rather than being bounced out and landing on something or someone.

If this fence can stop a 4000lb pro 4 off road truck at half the speed of a sprint, I'm sure it would halt the a sprint car, as long as it didn't hop over it of course.

Catch fences are made to keep cars out of grandstands and spectator areas. They are heavy poles and wire, (a lot of tracks don't have strong enough fence IMO) that can damage a car and driver as much as the beam in the billboard.
If you are talking about building something that gives in a non-spectator area, you still have a chance of a pole deforming and entering the c0ckpit.
I'm not saying that maybe having one put up so you can't hit the back side of the wall isn't a bad idea. But I'm not buying that the act of hitting the billboard was worse than what hitting a catch fence could be.

The where you land is a different argument to me.

Watch the Eldora video and tell me that ain’t the best option out there. Specifically designed for racing. Break away, quick replace, and two rows or more of safety cable.
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.
