Rockstar wasn't paying all that $ to sponsor on the Lucas series for that car to not be up front.

Problem is...the driver can't do his job when the sponsor turns the pits into a side-show circus, because the check writers want the driver mugging wirh the rockstar girls all day & night, every day & night.

He had a lot of bad racing luck the last year of that rockstar deal, while Owens and others were rolling. The added pressure of that sponsorship didn't help. You're suppose to be the "Rockstar" driver main attraction, not the side stage headliner at the county fair.

Regardless of the reasons....the list of popular DLM drivers who "got out" is getting longer and longer

        Schlieper
        Birky
        McCool
        Brady Smith
        Chris Wall
        ...and many others

Anybody else remember the race where he drove right over the front of another car for the lead. I think it was Bart Hartman or Marshall Green It's been a long time. Maybe was a Hav-A-Tampa race?

Wall & McCool have been racing around Mississippi the last few years and from what I have red both have raced this year.

That is Taylor Schefflers car that he drove at Plymouth.

Yes they have. You are 100% correct. And, Schlieper is going to run some races close to home in WI.

My reference was to running nationally...I should have made that clearer.

Correct, it was one of Scheffler's backup cars, (which is for sale), that they are letting Dan run. The fact that Schlieper "parked it" might make that sale happen a little faster.

Taylor was in his 10s machine Saturday at Plymouth.

When Darren Miller quit in early 2009 at the height of his racing career, I knew full time dirt track racing was heading in th wrong direction.

I’m happy to see that Schlieper at least continues to race, even if it’s at the local level.

Think it was Bart at the N/S.
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.

I'm pretty sure I've shared this on here before but one of the first times Dan was in a car he showed up in Shawano and parked next to us. You never, ever would've expected that he'd reach the heights that he did after seeing that proverbial crap show those guys put on...both on the track and in the pits. It was comical and scary at the same time. There was no doubt that the guy had an insane motor underneath him even then but the way he drove the thing suggested that a 5hp go-kart was too much for him to handle.

He is a great example of a guy getting out and traveling and not rotting away at one or two tracks for his entire career. Not long after I first saw him he started finding success nationally but any time his name would pop up after a touring season win I'd just shake my head and laugh.

In 2001 while living in Florida a buddy and I went to Volusia and saw Schlieper and Eckert put on one heck of a show. My buddy is from upstate New York so the DIRT modifieds were his thing. This was the first time he had ever seen a dirt late model race in person. Dan comes out for qualifying and never lifted. Right side of his car was basically torn off from riding around the fence but he set fast time. My friend turned to me and asked: "Is that guy insane?" I busted out laughing and gave him a bit of Dan's backstory.

Wonder why he left the national touring scene if i had to guess i would say money and sponsorship but i would love to see him back on tour with either series and running nationally again just cause he is a talent that could win championships

What I heard was he owed a guy in New York some money and went to work for him for a bit. Possibly a sponsor. Not sure the whole story on that but it's what I've heard over the last few years.

I do, they went around turn two with the 9 car sitting on Hartman's driver side hood at Florence Speedway. he won the race too. He got tired of being shut off at the bottom of the track, the only place you could run.
