Maybe not in Ohio but I'd bet Knoxville (IA) Raceway could pull it off.

They probably could, but it would still be really long odds to make any kind of profit.


This whole school of thought that a huge payout like this is going to somehow help dirt late model racing is flawed. All it would do is take gate prices to the NASCAR level, and drive the little guy out of the sport at an even faster rate.

Tell ya what, if i hit the Lotto i will put on the race, pay the purse, at Florence or Eldora and give all the money the races makes, profit, to an Autism Charity.

Couple things I would suggest to the OP
1) Gotta back that purse down a bit. That's a ton of $$ to guarantee for a one day pop.
2) Cut the risk to all involved by
A) Run two complete shows
B) Make them 75 lap A-mains
C) Run Thur/Fri with Sat rain date or
Fri/Sat with Sun rain date

1) $25k, 2) 20k, 3) 15k, 4) 12k, 5) 10k, 6) 8k, 7) 7k, 6) 6.5k, 7) 6k, 8) 5.5k, 9) 5.25k, 10) 5k, 11) 4.75k, 12) 4.5k, 13) 4.25k, 14) 4k, 15) 4k, 16) 4k, 17) 3.75k, 18) 3.75k, 19) 3.75k, 20) 3.5k, 21) 3.5k, 22) 3.5k, 23) 3.25k, 24) 3k

All cars that don't advance through B main, go to Consolation feature. (Max 16 cars per consolation) 20 laps
$3k to the winner, 2k to 2nd, $1000 thru 10th, $800 11th thru 16th

If you make the show both nights, going home with at least $6k. If you don't, going home with a min of $1600.

That's still a ton of $ to have to cover.
I would cap entries at 72 cars.
6 heats, 12 cars for 18 laps, top 3 to A-main
3 B-mains, 25 laps, top two advance
24 car A-main, 75 laps
Three 16 car consolation features, 20 laps

I couldn't imagine Greg Shobe or Danny Kelly at Waynesfield or Brad McCown at Atomic even attempting anything like this. Oakshade draws well now so why would they even consider doing it?

Like every other sport....if you want that kind of payout, it’s not going to come from the wallets of the attendees....you need TV money. If SLM got a couple Fortune 500 sponsors on board it would be no problem. Expecting peeps to shell out $50-60 a ticket? And sell umpteen thousand of them? You’re smoking some good $hit is all I’ll say. I’d love to see major league late model league if you will. Network TV...full grandstands...hype out the ying yang... drivers houshold names like napcar used to be...but I doubt it ever happens.

Unrealistic at best. Strikes me lots fans are trying to think of ideas or concepts to help the current state of affairs. But why is it contingent on fans and promoters to come up with the next great thing? What about the elite late model teams, aren’t they interested in attracting new blood into the national series? My bet is no. The top 15 to 20 well funded teams could care less. In fact they prefer to not have any more members into their little club. They operate without much thought to how purse winnings affect their yearly budget, they are funded adequately regardless. Wins are more about the recognition to them than a way to fund their operation. They like not sharing the limelight and don’t take time to think much about the future of the sport.
