Because when you have big races in support classes, it attracts people who don't belong in that class and ruin it for the people who do belong in that class. How many racers that should be in late models stay in modifieds? Call me crazy but I don't think there should be national points for 4 cylinders, street stocks, and maybe even modifieds. If you win a feature you just get to go to the national banquet and get recognition. If you want to go big time, get a super late model. Going "big time" in a modified, crate late model, or street stock is kind of a contradiction, because it's a support class. I'm all for trimming the modified racing way back so you retards paying $25,000 for a roller go pick on someone your own size. This is part of what is hurting late model racing anyways. Why move up? Modifieds have plenty of big races anyways.
Why only super late models should have specials

Why are crates, mods, street stocks, and 4 cylinders support classes to you? I think it’s disrespectful to those drivers to imply they are less important than those that run supers. If your a real race fan, you should know that all classes are equally important and be glad that mods, crates, streets, etc can race for bigger paydays every now and then. Also if a guy can make a living, or at worst a fair amount of money, running mods/crates/streets, why would you expect them to move up a class that they may not be as competitive in and inevitably cause them to not make as good of a living. Just because a guy is at the top of one class doesn’t mean he should move “up†to another division and if a promoter wants to give a “lower†class a bigger payday then let em have at it. I’ll go to a big mod or street stock race just as easy as I’d go to the Dream or World

Go into USMTS country and tell them they're a support class.

If you look at Atomic this past weekend with the Modifieds; you would conclude you should never pay them any bigger money shows. (Maybe a big event like Mega Modified, but not increase monies of 1.2K, 1.5K, & $3K to win).
Because all your weekly middle field to back of the field guys stay home do to perception of tougher fields with some better cars, so they don't race. But good guys from other tracks don't travel for money like they once did and you end up with less cars overall."The Wise One"

Actually some truth in what he said. Not to argue the 'support' division post, however big paying crate late model races actually hurt the idea of the class. Was initially meant to be a reasonable step for drivers to move 'up the ladder', however once they started paying the bigger money it became another place for the well funded teams to win a big check. The promoters want the big names to fill the stands and it comes at the expense of the 'beginner'. Really can't blame anyone, nature of the beast as everyone looks out for their own best interest. The need for someone to look out for the sport itself is still there....

At Cherokee they will run a big race paying 5K to will for what we call super stock 4 in November and they will be a ton of those guys there and most of the guys racing have been in that class all year. You hardly ever see a big name late model driver jump in a 4 cylinder to run that race. I say pay the what you call support divisions the big money from time to time and let them put on a show it also is a way for a track to say thank you for running with us all year.

The "Little Dream" at Rice Lake WI paid $13,000 this year...it's a street stock race with the winners share mostly funded by contributions from the fans... Cool deal. I think they get over 100 entries every year.Member of the Luxemburg Speedway Hall of Fame
