When I was on the staff at Capital in '83 I came up with the hare brained idea of a late season race event called the October Nationals.

We ran 8 divisions, featured a $20,000 purse with two nights of partying with free beer and live music under a 5,000 sq ft tent.

Just getting late models, sportsman, midgets, pavement sprinters and super modifieds together for one weekend was a challenge.

If you haven't tried an event like this trust me it's a hell of a lot of work and a financial challenge not many guys have the balls to attempt. My track owners had the guts to do it despite every other promoter telling us we were nuts.

And a seasoned promoter like Izzo should already know the effort and cost it takes. So what if the salute troops race didn’t have a band or skydivers. Would anybody care or notice?

That video made him sound more clueless than he already is. It was a good laugh.

Of course....Nathan running to post it and then defending it was an even bigger laugh.

Let me help you.
An event is something more then just a race.
As is the case of last years race that was cancelled because things didn't come together as planned.
There was a planned parachute landing, Possible aircraft fly over, Some military folks there, and a whole lot more to help and support our troops.
When you add up the money that would have cost the track a ton.
Tony has never cut or missed on payout.
A race is simply that just a race.

As for your last comment.
Until you've been effected by an illegal in a bad way some where in you life in this country.
You will never understand why folks want that wall so badly as some do.
Maybe it's a bad idea or maybe it's a good idea I would like to see are borders protected better then what they are.
If it means building a wall so be it.

Whole lot better places to spend billions than a useless wall. The cartel leaders are worth billions, a wall is an insanely stupid, useless, moronic, naive idea. Yes we need to do something, a multi billion dollar useless wall is not it.

I lost a year of work because a drunk illegal chose to pull in front of my Peterbilt while I was hauling a load of green beans. I had just loaded 30 miles back and this dumb f*ck looked me in the eye then pulled in traffic.

Me and a first responder got him out of his van because he was pinned under my trailer and we were afraid the truck was going to lay over since I wound up on a hillside 100' off the road.

Since he was too drunk to talk, the hospital drew blood and it was a .280. He had two prior drunk driving convictions in the past three years plus a few more infractions... possesion with intent to deliver, two open container charges, two driving after revocations, possesion of majiuana and cocaine (twice).

The state of Wisconsin had issued him a drivers license based on a fake ID.

I've been working with Mexican farms workers on and off for 47 years. Spent many days and nights loading produce in the fields across the country... lettuce and celery in Salinas, tomatoes in Indio, pickles in Hildago, mixed veggies in Belle Glade and potatoes, watermelons, cabbage and most everything else in ten other states.

Two summers ago I drove a bus hauling LEGAL Mexican pickers from my hometown to the fields in central WI where they harvested cucumbers, squash, pumpkins and cabbage from July to October.

I have mostly fond memories of working with those folks... good people. But most were legal. Even they will tell you the ones that cross illegally should be sent back. They make it hard for the ones that come here the right way.

Too many drugs and too many bad actors make their way across the Rio Grande...

I’ve seen a lot of great racing at Lasalle dating back to their opening season. I respect Tony for running a track and bringing some great shows their. It just seems like he has big ideas that aren’t practical. I’d rather see some 10 or 12 grand to win Lucas and All-Star shows there than plan big events that have to be cancelled and leave a bad taste in everybody’s mouth. Instances like that aren’t good for anybody.

Nope. My best friend is Boarder Patrol. Was on the boarder getting illegals and drugs, now he trains agents at their training place in NM.

With the cartels being the main issue, a wall ain’t going to get the ones we really need to get. They’ll use tunnels, airplanes, boats, submarines, etc.

Both parties agreed to a deal, Trump said no after the talk show host started saying crap.

Trump shut it down, not either party. One party gets the Hispanic vote, the other uses their labor to get rich. Neither is some kinda saint in this.

To spend billions on a wall when schools, roads, bridges, public utilities, etc are crap is nuts. You could raise the gas tax and cover our infrastructure cost. This wall will be a useless turd, that they’ll demo in 50 years. After they go over budget and take way too long to build.

Put more agents on the Boarder, take funding from our overseas BS and give it to the Boarder Patrol.

They’ll just end up using crap boats and unloading in Canada. It’s a wall. There’s a beginning and an end. And it only goes so deep. Absolutely we need to fix our immigration issue, but a multi billion dollar wall is a waste of $$$$.

Bingo Husker! Doing that just makes you look even worse trying to defend your decision to cancel a big race. Especially on Christmas Day.... If I wanna see airplanes I will go to an air show, same with skydivers. If I wanna see a band I will go to a concert. Its called racing. Provide me with a great product on the racetrack. Dont add all this crap and call it an event. How is that working out for Nascar. The few people that show up for a nascar race (vs amount of empty seats) are NOT there for the 3 second flyover.

As for the wall comment. There may be bad illegals but there are far WORSE naturally born US Citizens! How would a wall have prevented things like Columbine, Vegas, Texas Church shooting, Orlando, Parkland School, Virginia Tech, John Wayne Gassey, Charles Manson, Sandy Hook, most shootings in any city daily in the country. Need I go on?
