Have fun and see what you can see.
Bubstr, Jack Hewitt pulled an 11+ lb. large mouth out of the St. Johns river system a couple of years ago. Not sure exactly where but it was either Lake George or Crescent. I've been salivating to fish that part of Florida for years and God willing it's going to happen this coming February!

We ate lunch at The North Turn in Ponce Inlet on New Year's Eve last week and the peel & eat shrimp we had went for $24.00 a pound. We also ate at the place by the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, Down The Hatch and Boondocks while we were down there and didn't see all you can eat shrimp at any of those places. If I found a place with all you can eat peel and eat I would eat so much as to cause them to regret it! LOL!

      C and b

Grouper and trigger fish are my favorite saltwater fish by miles.......

I live ( and have most of my life )about a mile from the ocean and about a half mile to the inlet that can take me there to fish for them.

To be honest, I normally drive down to the docks to buy it though....not much boat time in my life anymore, the fun I now have with the grandkids make the boat seem like too much work.

Florida has a great fish that runs this time of year, it's red , sweet and juicy.....it's called a strawberry shortcake fish, hahaha......I eat em when I see em.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

BBQ, are you located in Florida near Ponce Inlet just south of Daytona Beach?

I'm a couple states up cirf.......have been most of my whole life.

I've done some surfing down in that area a time or twenty over the years but never lived there......my mom and grandparents were born and raised in Jacksonville and we have some friends and family still down that way.

Any of yall driving down 95, stop in St Augustine for seafood!

Try 1) Osteens-usually packed, call first 2)Schooners, 3)Barnacle Bills. The last 2 were trained by 1 so you get the point. Each specializes in butterflied fried shrimp, fish, and crabcakes. All their sides are homemade and delicious!

Try to get in 1 first as its the original but only slightly better than 2 or 3!

Gotcha'. I misunderstood where you were talking about having gone fishing and/or buying seafood.

We flew into Jacksonville the day before New Year's Eve and drove down the coast through St. Augustine to Daytona/Ponce Inlet and spent New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and the 9 days following New Year's down there. Our lodging was directly on the beach in Ponce Inlet and the temp. was over 80 degrees almost every day.

We like Jacksonville. Great food in the J-ville area and we love how convenient the airport is, especially compared to Tampa and Orlando.

              Sorry for the thread hijack.

Thanks ZERO! We'll be sure to give those places a try on our way down to Ft. McCoy from Jacksonville when we're down in that area next month. We get down to the Daytona area a couple of times a year and St. Augustine is just a hop and a skip from Daytona so we'll make note of those places. We've been going to Daytona for so many years that even the really good restaurants have become a bit repetitious.

No pretenses at this southern seafood joint on the river, where all the servers are cousins and treat you like family! Down South River Cookin' by natives that you definitely don't...

This is a pretty good place in Port Orange! Excellent location!

                  I'll be there this weekend!

Its been year's since we went to volusia, but I'm trying to remember the name of a restaurant. It was a little mom and pop place that had racing paraphernalia everywhere on the walls. I remember several autographed photos with nascar guys etc. From there visits to the restaurant. Any ideas?

We've been to Aunt Catfish's on the River a couple of times. That place has been in business at the same spot on the Halifax River since the early 1980's. They gotta' be doing something right!

I've been to the place you speak of but can't remember the name of the place. It might be called the Swamp Shack these days. If I remember correctly Freddie Smith was a regular at this place during Speedweeks. I think the place had an Astor Park address, but not positive.

One of the everyday locals there in Daytona told me if I really wanted good seafood to get in my car and drive to boston because very little of anything served around daytona is caught around daytona. He says most everything has come in on a airplane ride not a boat ride..

If you go on down to the treasure coast and palm beaches, and order the warm water fishes, they are fresh catch.

Way back in the day, Mayport docks used to be the place to buy fresh shrimp. Just north of Jacksonville beach.

If I'm eating, I like Snapper, if I'm fishing, nothing like a school of strippers. Hot and heavy. Watch out for the salt water catfish. Almost lost a finger to a spine once. The Doc says,"what was you waiting for, the finger to fall off."
