My brother and I were thinking it was called Roy & Cricket's??? Does that ring a bell with anyone.
I remember Freddy being there, place was always packed for breakfast. I seem to remember maybe a vendor or 2 being setup outside selling die cast, t-shirts, etc.

Yep, its about 10 miles from Volusia in the town of Astor.

The last time I drove by there, couple years ago, it was called a different name.

All my Wife's family has lived in Port Orange/Daytona Beach since 1987 so it's probably reasonable to refer to them as everyday locals. Her family has taken us to the docks under the Dunlawton bridge when the fishing boats come in off of the Atlantic and we've watched them unload the shrimp and the fish catch on many occasions. We've watched it being processed at a retail fresh seafood store and also taken to the restaurant called Down Under that is affiliated with the fishing boats that are moored just steps from the processing building and the affiliated restaurant, Down Under.

I'm not saying the "local" you spoke with is incorrect regarding seafood flown in but I know for a fact that the local fishing vessels supply Down Under, and other restaurants as well, with a portion of the fresh local seafood that is offered on their menu's.

The name Roy & Cricket's doesn't ring a bell but that could be my memory playing tricks on me. I'm pretty sure the place was called Swamp Shack prior to it's last closing.

I remember it was always pretty busy every time we ate there and it definitely was near Astor, FL. It was located on the south side of Rt. 40. I would agree that there was racing memorabilia vendor's set up on the restaurant property during Speedweeks at Volusia.

I think Freddie Smith had the name of the place on his car at one time or another.

Its going to come down to what you order. Cold water fish are certainly not local. If you get cobia, grouper, dolphin, or snapper, chances are good if its fresh catch its Florida fish.

I just booked a couple nights in the Orange City Motel, in Orange City, FL. $72 a night grand total. The reviews sound pretty good. It’s a half hour drive to either Volusia or Daytona. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...y_Florida.html

I'm making my first trip to Volusia this year. This thread was extremely helpful. I've decided to book a reserved campsite at the track.

I'm leaving tomorrow for the modified week at Eastbay starting on Tuesday, still haven't booked a place to stay; just gonna figure it out when I get there.

Not to sound like a PETA member, but Dolphins?
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.

I hope that snow storm doesn't screw up your plans … The temps have been from 55 - 75 the past few weeks ….

Thanks Bob we were supposed to leave late tonight, but decided to leave at noon today. That should get us far enough south to beat the storm, but we'll see

CNBF, the dolphins that are commonly eaten are not the mammals, or Flipper. I believe the dolphin fish that is eaten is sometimes referred to as mahi-mahi.

Yeah, now I gotcha. I was thinking, wtf, like the dang Japanese trapping them in that cove.

Hubbard, where all have you ate?

St. Augustine has several really good places to eat. We go there 1-2 times a year and rent a beach house down from the pier on 2nd st. It's right across from the Taco Shop. They have good tacos and burritos btw.

                                Love that area.
