Prayers going out Allen......the city took a few steps back about 15 years ago when MB got very big very fast and the city fathers were too busy counting the money to worry about things like safety, riffraff,and crime and it just got out of control over there.

the city has new leadership and that leadership knows the beach and the boulevard is part of the big draw so they don't play around a whole lot down there anymore......maybe even to the point of over reacting with the ticketing and presence.

As long as you don't mess up( even a little bit) down there along the strip you'll be fine and it's pretty safe during normal hours......which I'm fine with , I used to basically live on that boulevard as a teenager and remember it with great fondness as a spot where you could impress the tourist girls with your cool car, long hair, and surfboard.

It's a really beautiful area away from all the gimmicks, putt putts and all you can eat crableg joints and to some degree even all that is kinda cool if you find the right ones......ive traveled in and out of there a good bit since the late 70s and its been pretty cool watching it evolve from what it was to what it is but like everything ,with that comes a certain element of people that like to prey on others.

My bride and I both have a sidearm fairly close by most times to even the playing field for those folks( hope it never comes to that)......that south end of the area is my favorite place to be( pawleys island, litchfield beach, Garden City, Murrels inlet ,Surfside Beach etc).....it's less commercial, more old beach vibe, and close enough to the cool stuff to do up in Myrtle.

And btw.....Charleston and its beaches and islands adjacent is one of the finest city's in the US

This would've been in '06. It was just one little thing after another after we went to MB. Charleston was great. Loved the drive from Charleston to MB through the little towns,and all the wicker basket stands by the side of the road run some of which were run by the Gullah people.

We loved part of it! We loved Peaches Corner,and walking down by Ripley's on the main drag. Great people watching. We went to both the old amusement parks,and loved them. I still have not seen as many license plates from different states as we saw there.

When the weekend came,it started getting riff-raffier. I hate to be like that,but I felt a little uneasy a lot of the time. We found out about the motel room on the last night for a final rub in the wound. The policeman who responded to our call said they would even climb up a wall and break in from the balcony. One of the last times we stayed where they still used keys instead of room cards.

I'm glad they have cleaned it up,but you can't get too Gestapo on people either. We are seeing some big money come into Hot Springs here which is less than 30 miles away. New Casinos are coming to Oaklawn horse racing track,and the bathhouses and old motels are being renovated. It has in the last year or two become like the old West in the middle part of town between the National Park and the Oaklawn track. Shootings and murders are happening at a crazy place. People are trying to bring Pine Bluff back also. Good luck with that!

We loved Charleston,and we went out to Folly Beach. Thought it was cool,but on the last night I uunkowingly drove about 10 feet down a wrong way street. Cops were nice,but I got a ticket and then my wife got soured on F.B. LOl.

Not a Mustang guy either. Like the cars, just majority are douches who drive them.

The Bowery had a pretty good local guy playing I think it was Friday night. Didn’t go there though, with the kids, didn’t wanna venture there at like 9.

Sorry to hear about your MIL, cancer is awful. You don’t realize how bad it is till it hits close to home.

Didn’t hit the Alabama theatre. To be honest, them and Willie were two of the worst concerts I’ve seen. Though that theatre would be neat.

Sorry to hear about your crappy MYB stay. If you go back, Hilton has two newer hotels there. Oceanfront, and great service.

I have/have driven hot rods. I try not to show out too much,and for sure not in civilization. This was fortunately way before Mustangs started taking down crowds of bystanders on Youtube....

We didn't actually go in the bar part of the Bowery. We did go to the gift shop though. We didn't go to a show at the theater,but we did go visit it. We saw Alabama in March with Charlie Daniels. It was my first time to see Charlie. He tore it up. Alabama was good,but it lacked a bit from previous shows I've seen. I did enjoy it,but Charlie stole the show. The guys in Alabama have all suffered health issue the last few years. The Seawright kid from Fort Payne is the son in law of the former drummer Mark Herndon I believe. There is some connection. Mark got let go a few years ago.

Never say never. We might pass through there again one of these years. You never know. The hotel we stayed in supposedly had a renovation or whatever,and some poor young man called me trying to get me to stay there. I told him even though it had been torn down and rebuilt I still wouldn't think of staying there. lol.

This woulda been probably 99 or 2000. I was dating this one girl for a little while, took her. They just talked a lot. I wanna hear you sing, not talk.

I worry about Charlie’s health, but I do enjoy his music.

If you ever do go back, research man. There’s a few nice hotels. Like I said, the two Hilton ones are pretty new, the one has only been open about a month. Cannot go past the lobby without a key card. Though if you are froggy, you can take the stairs.

I did because of the elevator back log. 14 stories up carrying crap. Only did it once, it sucked.
