There all mostly running a RY45 platform, even thou there different builders. Speaking of the Touring guys.

    Bloomquists Custom RYs are stout.

Bshepps Durhams are a rung above most too.

Coronet seems to have the best handle on the Chevies, Jay D!ckens is making some waves with the Chevrolet as well.

    Just say no...

Actually it's pretty close to 50/50 on the ford stuff between the RY45 and a D3 headed engine.

This thread is a good example of why I like 4m. There are some very savvy engine people on here. I was wondering what type of engine and who built the engine in the 6M car McCreadie drove at Cedar Lake.

Junghans runs a ry45 by Clements. Pretty sure the 6 is a Cornett

50 / 50 on the D3 stuff, that is interesting Billet. You think that is by choice or finances?

Yeah Davenport switched from Durham RY's? to Coronetts Chevy's, i recall he said that he liked the power band better on the Chevy.

Besides Bloomquist this year, are any other drivers running a Custom built engine on a National tour. It interesting how both Custom and to some extent Cornett were kind of forgotten for a while, and now seem to be back on the national stage again.... I have said this many times: racing is a very fickle business. Both engine and chassis builders seem to go up and down like yo yo's.

I overheard Jack Cornett tell a guy at the dtwc that he would rather build a d3 over the RY. So hearing it's 50/50 out there is believable.

I think Bloomer is a solo act right now using the Custom engines on a national level. Scott used Benedum ‘s Custom engine at the World Finals last year. His ties to Durham had soured. When he & Larry Clark announced the Custom deal-Clark stated he was “all in.” Custom was huge for many years on the National Level (hav-a-Tampa days).
If you remember: Bloomer was probably the first national driver to switch to the Ford engines. He had a 5 year deal with Ford & Roush & Ford supplied the heads/parts to Cornett Race Engines for assembly. I am thinking this is where the lightning & thunder came into play. One was Chevy & the other was Ford. I could be wrong- but that’s what my memory tells me. 🏁🏁
Bloomer, Frye, Freddie Smith, ARP all had a lot of success using the Custom power.

Also: After Bloomer left Cornett & went back to Custom- (fords)- I was talking to Larry Clark at Kentucky Lake Speedway & remember him saying that you could get more horsepower from a Ford engine but it took a lot more $$ to do it.

The choice on ford type has nothing to do with finances (least for the touring guys), while the D3 is less expensive it's about the power curve and it's a preference to the team/driver.

DLMfan123: You sure about chase, I just talked to Vinny at I-80 and asked which one they ran and he said D3.

#Side note: You can also buy every single part for the RY45 and put it together yourself. All the parts come from one place only. The combo is already researched out and can easily be assembled by a half competent engine guy.

#2 Side note: The D3 and RY45 are completely different architects of engines, basically nothing interchanges. Even the bell housing is different

The Studebaker I'm building should be right up there in HP with the RY 45....

Junghans had a D3 head Ford at Deer Creek and Cedar Lake. As I recall he had a Cornett Thunder engine .
