Hiding your setup

It has been the cool thing to do to put something up to hide your setup when the car is on jack stands. I noticed one late model that qualified around 60th out of 68 at Charlotte hiding his setup.. so I have to ask.. WHY?

Who gives a rats rear end what that guy has under his car? Maybe some would look to see what NOT to do.

At Charlotte, if they had a rear car cover or full car cover on, they were using it to keep everything warm since it was so cold out. Also guys use the pit mats to cover the tires so they don't get hammered by the sun.

A lot of people cover the car up because the cool kids do. They may have the most vanilla setup from the car builder, but they still cover the rear of the car if its 100 degrees out.

We always kept our stuff covered more this time of year to help keep a little bit of heat in the oil system and rear end. Most of the time if you pay attention, the torpedo heater will be pointed to the center of the car. A lot of people think crews put the pit mats in front of the wheel openings to hide things. That's not always the case either. It's a lot easier to keep the mats by the car instead having to search for them. I'm sure some done it hide things, we didn't do it for that reason.

Some guys have sponsors on those rear end covers. we cover the tires just to keep them out of the sun in the summer. Not to be sneaky. And everything else that was said too.

I know I do in the middle of the summer with the cover and pit mats keep the sun heat off stuff, since it is all black.
And I do the pit mats over fender wells just to keep them off the ground, and cleaner.
There was a time I had some trick stuff on and was winning a good bit, and I did my best to hide it.
But I am a mod guy. and part time crate guy.

Well it was 60 degrees on Thursday, nothing to keep warm. No tires on the car, mats in wheel well. Car backed in so Im not sure about a cover over the back. Just the site of trying to hide his setup gave me a chuckle. Spends more money on racing than some of the touring guys and rarely runs top 5.

Local track near me runs a "Charger" Late model division to add to the other 4-5 late model divisions. It's for beginner late model drivers that have never won a late model race with some other caveats. I noticed one of the drivers does this same thing through out the year and never understood it. I miss the days were you could walk through the pits and see all the cars jacked up in their natural form and everything. I guess I understand it but man it really takes away from the cars when you look at pit pics from the Dream/World 100 and other big money shows and see all those black things covering up the wheels.

I dont have a problem with teams protecting their own setups, but I HATE the look of tarping the entire rear of the car off. It looks horrible, not professional, and most of all they cover up valuable sponsors.

Point I was making is based on his race results NO ONE cares what set up he is using. Also there were several back markers covering their cars so I see no reason to mention any names. I always think it's cool for small teams to try and make the World Finals.. just don't try to act big time when you are not.

I disagree. If someone else cares or not. If you are trying to get to the top, act like it. Dress for the job you want. Not the one you have.
