NASCAR was great when you had the likes of wild men Junior Johnson and Curtis Turner. Today, not so much . . . not so much at all! And as I recall. Junior retired at the old age of 35.

Smoky might have had one of the best ideas of all when he put 2-3 gallons of gas in the roll cage . . . just in case, you know! LOL!Originally posted by RW57 View PostHe and Smoky never found a rule book they couldn't get around. The old guys are passing on with nobody to fill their shoes. RIP Junior.

From what I remember I think Curtis was the rowdiest of them all.Originally posted by jog49 View PostNASCAR was great when you had the likes of wild men Junior Johnson and Curtis Turner. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normalâ€.

Probably so . . lost his driver's license for reasons you can easily imagine. Lost his pilot's license for landing his plane in a church parking lot in Charlotte. Some said he could drive holding a beer can in each hand but I don't know about all that. I think he did stay in trouble with the law on a regular basis. A carload of us drove all the way to Daytona in 1966 just to see Curtis drive Smoky's car in the Firecracker and he wore them out . . . for a while. LOL!

I thought it had created another one one night until the d@mn road ditch jumped out in front of me and I barrel rolled about 4 times through a guy’s fence and pasture. Needless to say that was the last time I tried hauling shine in my stomach.Originally posted by buster83 View Postthat moonshine has created some great drivers and Junior Johnson was a great one.

I'll admit, When JJ covered his mouth I couldn't understand what he said about getting out of the plane and the Daytona crach. It made me laugh though.Originally posted by AllenK View PostRIP to The Last American Hero.

Another true innovator and legend gone, RIP JJ. One of my favorite contraptions he made was in the late 80's early 90's. He made it so when you turned the air cleaner nut it adjusted the intake plenum up or down. Sadly he got caught before getting to run it. I believe "Midnight Moon" was in fact JJ's label, although he may have sold it to another party. Didn't he have a son from hissecond marriage that started to get in racing in early 00's?
