NYC is reporting a total of 10,657 covid deaths as of 3 hrs ago ......if the other 13k plus deaths are double the norm of average deaths during that time frame then somebody better check it out and see why.

We are seeing this phenomenon in other places outside of NYC. It's more likely that we are under counting covid-19 deaths than it is that we are over counting.

Check my math. The state public health department reports that an average of 146 people died per day in 2017. They also report that from March 11 - April 19 2020 there were 9101 people that were confirmed to have died from Covid-19, 4582 who probably died from Covid-19, and 10,099 who died and are not known to be confirmed or probably Covid-19 deaths.

9101 + 4582 + 10099 = 23,782 total deaths in NYC over a period of 46 days.
146 * 46 = 6,716 total deaths are expected over the same time period in NYC going off of the 2017 average.

23782 - 6716 = 17,066 more deaths than are expected.

That's likely because we are undercounting Covid-19 deaths. We are seeing actual deaths exceeding expected deaths all over the world wherever there is a Covid-19 outbreak.

NYC isn't miscounting their total number of deaths regardless of cause of death. All they have to do is report how many bodies show up at the morgue.

My point, or more specifically the point of the NY Times, is that health officials are counting a death as a covid-19 death when there has been no positive test or sometimes no test at all; and in some cases nothing at all related to coronavirus beyond "oh we couldn't get him a room after his heart attack because they're full of covid-19 patients, so since he died due to inadequate medical care it we're going to blame it on coronavirus."

It's the same as getting shot in the chest and while the ambulance is transporting you it comes up on a wreck that has completely blocked the only road to the hospital. So you die while the ambulance is stuck in traffic and the cause of death is listed as due to a "traffic collision." Makes no sense and only serves to skew the numbers.

I don't really care about the total number of deaths in the city this year. I think most people would just like to see the actual number of deaths caused by actions of the virus, not deaths also lumped into that category for some vague reason.
