He was pretty good in the Koehler car at first. The pack has caught up and they haven't been at tracks that are friendly to the setup he was exploiting. Get him back at a medium size slick track and he will be fine.Originally posted by jog49 View PostIt would be an interesting study to put RTJ back in the SSI car.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

Ricky is Ricky so something else has changed. My thinking is the Koehler car is not as good as the SSI car. The Koehler boys, although not in RTJ's league, never have really done much in those cars so I don't think they are up to snuff, so to speak. As a teammate to JD, for example,, Landers could walk around with his chest puffed up all the time. A top shelf driver should always be on the top shelf to take advantage of the talent while it is shining.Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View Post

I would be willing to wager if you took the top 5 drivers in the country in dirt late models at this time and let them make 5 laps each in the exact same car on exact same track conditions , there would not be 2 tenths difference in there times , so when I see a driver dominating for a while , I have to believe they have stumbled on to something no one has at the time , use to not be this way , but with the evolution of these cars today , you have to have the very best equipment available and hope to stumble on to that slight advantage that will give you those 2 tenths and ride it till some one discovers it or there own trick ....JMO...

So then...whatever SSI had when Ricky was there, he didn't know about it. Or at least is unable to duplicate. From what I've seen, only drivers that have excelled in the Rocket1 are guys that bang the boards. McCreadie ain't that guy. So what is so different about that team that basically requires you to drive like you trying to blow it up/rip the body off every lap? It's obviously set-up that way. The recent update seems to have helped but still ain't close to winning.Originally posted by fastford View PostI would be willing to wager if you took the top 5 drivers in the country in dirt late models at this time and let them make 5 laps each in the exact same car on exact same track conditions , there would not be 2 tenths difference in there times , so when I see a driver dominating for a while , I have to believe they have stumbled on to something no one has at the time , use to not be this way , but with the evolution of these cars today , you have to have the very best equipment available and hope to stumble on to that slight advantage that will give you those 2 tenths and ride it till some one discovers it or there own trick ....JMO...

I think a lot of a drivers success these days is from not giving a sh*t about driving "dirty". Look at the amount of contact the top guys make with other cars to pass when they don't start on the front row. The older guys play it safe with their stuff and they end up going backwards a lot of the time for their consideration.

He duplicated it. Car looked very much the same at first and he ran good. As I said, it's been track conditions and people catching up. He's hands on. He knew what he had.Originally posted by KTMLew View Post

His FB channel says they junked the cars from Knoxville and built two new ones. Woulda swore the talking heads at Knoxville said, was having new car blues. So new cars weren't good, replaced with two more?Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View Post

I'm soooo confused! I can't comment on his feed. Not in the cliche' I guess.

There are people who say a lot of Longhorn chassis are bad. So, maybe that's what happened. The car he got in at first was fast. And drove like an SSI car. Longhorn must be built too flexible.Originally posted by KTMLew View Post

That's an easy one to imagine. The transponder on his car was made by the same company that made the tabulators for the last Presidential election....or the one that made the suitcases that held the ballots in Georgia and Pennsylvania? No, I just think he had a fast car and drove it that way. Pierce has been leaving everyone in the dust too, you will note. Sometimes in hot laps, he's been a second faster than anyone else. It happens.Originally posted by fastford View PostI would be willing to wager if you took the top 5 drivers in the country in dirt late models at this time and let them make 5 laps each in the exact same car on exact same track conditions , there would not be 2 tenths difference in there times , so when I see a driver dominating for a while , I have to believe they have stumbled on to something no one has at the time , use to not be this way , but with the evolution of these cars today , you have to have the very best equipment available and hope to stumble on to that slight advantage that will give you those 2 tenths and ride it till some one discovers it or there own trick ....JMO...
