Possible dirt cars on asphalt series?

Will it happen?Strict rules dirt chassis only .No sway bars.Lots of older dirt cars sitting around that would be useful again.Swing arm rayburn? Keep the weight limit low to deter lots of left ,heck maybe say you cant weigh over a certain amount...

I don't see it being viable. Tire Bill is high enough already. The race last week got very little support.

The northeast did this in the late 90s with big block mods. It was a sub series within the SDS. Pavement specific cars appeared at the very first race. It only lasted a handful of years.

My assumption is this isn't for Davenport and Sheppard, but more of a regional deal. In that case, tire costs matter.

Fun fact: The tires at the SAS asphalt race last weekend where actually cheaper then our normal dirt tires.

I'd rather see a race on pavement than the run of the mill 1/2 mile races that are being put on these days. At least it's something different.

The dirt cars on asphalt thing has been tried many times over the years and never ended up more than a novelty show. I was involved in it once strictly by accident.. Bought a '39 Ford dirt car in the late '60s and was looking for a place to get some laps before going to Eldora on Sunday and someone told me the Shady Bowl in Ohio was dirt and ran the cars on Saturdays. Went and, of course, the Bowl was asphalt and still is. Long story short got put on the outside pole and never went backward so fast in my life. Did a bit better the next day on my first race at Eldora. I don't know if asphalt cars on dirt have ever been tried but might be interesting.

Same weekend as the Alabama state race and HTF series at Thunderhill TN did not help but let's also be real here. The SAS dirt series ain't what it used to be either. I remember when it was the premier regional series here in the south. Now...............it is just another regional series with all the competition. I was at the Anderson race and loved it but it was mainly just a spectacle. I actually race there pretty regularly and loved seeing it in person. Seeing and hearing the dirt SLMs on asphalt was cool but the racing didn't produce much actual racing. I will add though that I've seen my fair share of snoozers of SLM races on dirt tracks in the area as well though.

As for tires, I tend to get more races out of a set of my asphalt tires in mini stock then my dirt buddies do on their dirt tires.
