Anyone out there (successfully) running older (pre 2017) chassis?

You are correct, I was replying to his reply to this comment from HH "I think it says something when a touring guy isn't competitive, gets a new chassis and suddenly is fast again".

The top touring guys aren't saying cars are bad just to buy another one, they don't need an excuse to buy a new one. lol

To go one step further...if they aren't into setup etc. how do they know what to look for in an employee?

Are you kidding me? Clearly they do not hire people without a background with results if they need someone with experience.

As far as I can see there's a bit more to it then that.

I've seen a lot of guys hired for doing manual work on a successful team and people think they learned something about setups. They didn't.

and they didn't last long in a setup role did they?

Well then why do you keep asking dumb questions when you CLEARLY feel you have all the fkn answers already??? Have you ever built a car? Worked on one? Raced?

I don't think maintenance has anything to do with the issue. I think today's chassis is so lightweight and delicate that the least bit of contact gets them out of sync.

Well if you look back to earlier in the thread where it was mentioned about RTJ running an older (2019 was it?) car and I even think back to JD running an older Horn for the Eldora races...if what your saying is true then it would mean those cars never took any contact.

Just for curiosity's sake...what would be required to get it to be competitive?

I ain't naive about anything. I've been around this stuff for the better part of 35 years. If you think these drivers are hiring crew members off of zip recruiter, or based off their LinkedIn profile, you may be the naive one. The guys who are hired to make the car fast are mainly hired based off their results with other teams. These guys don't generally come into the sport on top of their game, they usually come in as a lower level crew guy and work their way up, once they are established winners their market value increases and other teams will start trying to hire them away from their team. The faster they can make the car the more sought after they are.... hence why Cody Mallory never lacks for work long, even being less than a stellar human being.

And why do you think JD keeps that older Longhorn parked in his living room 360 days out of the year?

Front cross members, front geometry changes, rear geometry changes, a lot of stiffening of the chassis

Some of them did. One guy single handedly killed a team that had a couple of great drivers.
