New rules idea question

Why can't we keep SLM chassis as is and mandate a shock/spring in front of axle, nlmt3 or lm30, and body rules that are common sense simple and create a new affordable division? I'm not much a tire rules guy but thought simple. Body is obvious but biggest thing I feel is taking traction away thru body and LR spring placement. Then motors don't really matter. I do think shock technology needs dumbed down but there's only so much can do and used stuff can be redone cheap.

What's thoughts? Maybe work as a regional or local series and grow? %1k to win isn't much or could go more but if little guy has chance you'll get cars

I agree on body. Spring placement won't change anything. This class was built on suspension freedom and small bodies after 1983.

There's no magic in the spring attachment point. There is in motion ratios.

And said magic is that it gets the deck up in the air quickly to do more aero. If the cars didn't have aero load, they would then be faster sitting down on their shocks and springs. Then, you wouldn't care where the LR was.

The current LM races great on smaller tracks like FALS and Maquoketa last night because aero isn’t as big of a factor. Proves that large suspension changes aren’t needed to get racing better, just take aero advantage away.

We actually had similar started in 1984. One set of rules for a BUNCH of tracks. Each promoter got a vote on each of the rules. It was called UMP!!

That was the turning point for saving the class so it could be ruined in the 2000s

I don't think body rules will have any affect on the racing. 4m wants to cut the spoiler down and have flat decks with straight nose. Did you watch the class that have small spoilers, flat decks and no nose? IMCA mods at Maquoketa friday night the winner started 3rd and won comfortably. Saturday the winner started 2nd and won by 4 seconds.

One thing thats changed over the last decade or so is even on the bullrings you rarely see a guy carry the left front. That used to happen on short tracks (sometimes the full length of the straightaway). Probably more of a symptom than a cause. The cars have definitely become more of a all 4 on the ground creature. Probably the result of changes to try to pin the car to the ground to maximize the aero effect. 1/2 miles used to put on good racing & now I wouldn't drive across town to watch em on a 1/2 mile. Maybe exception for Eldora & Knoxville but even those have become primarily win from the front exercises in recent years.

It will 100% have an effect on the way the cars are driven. Will it change the results of a given race? Not necessarily.

Or the winged sprint car. They usually have good racing without the dreaded aero push.
