Too Many Classes-Hell Tour

Living in Pennsylvania, boy was it tough to stay awake last night to watch the features from The Brownstown Bullring. The Modified feature did not get over until 12:30am. I think the reason that most fans enjoy the midweek High Limit races are they run only one class with one support class. They give the fans what they want. If the promotors were smart, they would only run the DLM's and Modifieds for all midweek races for the Summer Nationals. Just my humble opinion from an old time dirt race fan.

3 classes should be the max IMO. Promoters see this as an opportunity to make a little extra back gate by having their most populated weekly classes as an undercard on these nights. I get it, but if you are going to do that, get the supers and mods out of the way early. So, the fans at the track can get back home, and the racers can get on the road.

I shut mine down around 11:30 last night.

I totally agree.

I mostly watch WoO Sprints on Dirtvision and they have at most one support class. It's painful to try to watch when there's that many support classes last night.

Totally agree. 4 classes on a Tuesday night? Brutal. Let's pack the back gate and not worry about the fans that have to go to work the next morning. In the Indy area, USAC midget week had one support class, sprint cars. Same when USAC sprint weeks happens, one support class. That's all you need. Sadly, looks like most SN races have multiple support classes.

Funny this thread popped up, I was talking to a friend of mine about this very subject. He was at 34 Raceway Saturday night and they had 58 cars in 6 divisions. Went and looked at multiple tracks in different areas- Laurens SC had 38 cars in 8 divisions.... I realize a little off topic, but it all started with trying to run up the back gate on the Saturday night programs and has moved into the 'specials'. I think some would rather remove the grandstands than to try and fill them, sad way to look at it in my opinion.

Tonight at Kankakee, there will be 5 classes running: Late Models, Modifieds, 604 crates, Pro Mods, and Stock cars.

I don’t care if they run 10 support classes BUT have the late model feature on the track by 9:30 on a weeknight show.
You’d think the race director would and should have the ability to alter the line up as seen fit.
Late model heats-mod heats-late model consi’s-street stock heats-late model feature. It’s not that hard.

I hate to cry about it but it’s one of the reasons I’m thinking about getting rid of some of my streaming platforms. I don’t want to stay up til midnight every night trying to watch the late model feature.

I have Flo. That's it. Rarely watch anything except Lucas Dirt. After watching Vogler lose part of his skull on national TV, not much interest in sprint cars at all. Brutal.

Weeknight show = 2 classes max. Weekend = 3 classes max. You would think Dirtcar would care about the quality of the product a bit more & put some conditions on tracks that host a summer national. But given some of the woebegone places they take this tour to, I guess it''s obvious it's a quantity over quality thing.

On a good front, I did notice that Clarksville is only running 4 classes on their summernational night in a few weeks. I think in some past years they ran 6 or more.

I think they cut the $5k to win shows to 30 laps a couple years ago. The $10k shows are still 40 laps & Macon is still 100. Summernationals has really dropped off in recent years IMO. I went to Lincoln last year and the show was done before dark. Only drew like 22 lates and similar # of mods. That's a show that drew close to 40 or more a few years earlier.

And most of the $5k shows are now $25 or $30 to get in. Lincoln was $30 at the gate last year. $30 for $5k to win with low 20's car count really isn't worth it IMO. Especially when several of those are crate late models and not remotely competitive with the front of the field.

44 cars there, last night... Thus far, 34 tonight... Tough to complain about those kinds of numbers.

But, you still say the series has really dropped off.?.? Sounds smart.

I bet that there are a lot of promoters that would like to draw 44 entries ( 7 National touring drivers ) for 5 grand on a Tuesday night.
