Talked to a guy last night who has an xr2 on order. He has a 1.2 and says all components interchange but the xr2 bare frame in 22 lbs lighter.

Could somebody who is a Rocket aficionado explain:
What was the biggest change when they went from the older "Blue/Gray" cars to the XR1?
Was the XR1 the first Rocket with under-slung rear clip?
Did the XR1 use any of the previous design parts or was it "all new" at the time?

I don't think anyone really know yet but it'll be interesting to see what they've done different.Originally posted by Henry Every View PostCould somebody who is a Rocket aficionado explain:

The main differences in the original xr-1 were The material and the manner in witch the chassis was designed structurally they were also docol vs chromoly and a much more ridged design compared to the blu grey stuff. Also xrs were the first generation rockets to have bolt on pickup points. As far as suspension goes the front suspension was slightly different but very similar to the blue grey. The rear stuff was virtually unchanged . No xr-1 were not the first rockets to be underslung. They were underslung somewhere in the early to mid 2000s but they were bolt in and some guys ran both some ran 1 some ran none lol.

I waiting until someone figures out that the door plate in the new XR2 is illegal and how long before someone complains and gets one DQ'ed
Now granted I haven't searched to make sure they didn't do a rule change in WoO or Lucas, but I doubt itLast edited by billetbirdcage; 08-05-2025, 02:33 PM.

Spill the beans, what is illegal about it?Originally posted by billetbirdcage View PostI waiting until someone figures out that the door plate in the new XR2 is illegal and how long before someone complains and gets one DQ'ed

Do safety violations result in disqualifications? I thought that stuff was generally caught before a car was allowed on the track..... and not allowed to race.

C. Driver Side Intrusion Plate
a. A minimum one-eighth inch (1/8”) thick magnetic steel intrusion plate on the driver’s side door bars is mandatory.
b. Approved installations:
i. Welded plates- Individual plates between door bars are permitted but must be welded around the perimeter of each opening. The minimum area covered is sixteen inches (16”) by twenty-six inches (26”).
ii. A minimum of sixteen-inch (16”) x twenty-six-inch (26”) plate bolted to fabricated one-eighth inch (1/8”) magnetic steel tabs, welded securely to the chassis, using a minimum of eight (8) x three-eighths of an inch (3/8”) Allen button head bolts. A minimum of three (3) fabricated one-eighth of an inch (1/8”) magnetic steel tabs and three-eighths of an inch (3/8”) Allen button head bolts required across the top of the intrusion plate, a minimum of three (3) fabricated one-eighth of an inch (1/8”) magnetic steel tabs and three-eighths of an inch (3/8”) Allen button head bolts required across the bottom of the plate, and one (1) fabricated one-eighth of an inch (1/8”) magnetic steel tabs and three-eighths of an inch (3/8”) Allen button head bolt in each in the middle front and middle rear of intrusion plate.
iii. A minimum of sixteen-inch (16”) x twenty-six-inch (26”) plate bolted to a minimum of six (6) approved-design door bar clamps using the included twelve (12) x one-half-inch (1/2”) Allen button head bolts per the manufacturer’s specification. A minimum of three (3) approved-design door bar clamps and the included six (6) x one-half-inch (1/2”) Allen button head bolts required across the top of the intrusion plate and three (3) approved-design door bar clamps and included six (6) x one-half-inch (1/2”) Allen button head bolts required across the bottom of intrusion plate. The vendor and part number must be clearly labeled on the part.
iv. Currently approved door bar clamps:
1. Bicknell Racing Products – Part Number: BRP 954
2. Wehrs Machine & Racing Products – Part Number: WM397
3. Allstar Performance – Part Number: ALL4198

You can look at the picture posted on the first page and see how many tabs there are to bolt the plate onto frame. I suppose it possible there are slugs welded into a couple other bars that you can't see so it does have 8 bolts. But other pics I seen don't appear to either but possible they are there.

So you don’t think leaving 22 pounds of tubing out of a chassis doesn’t change its torsional stiffness?Originally posted by Flathead View PostI’m pretty sure Richards isn’t going to make a bunch of illegal race cars and sell them. That’s got to one of the dumbest posts on here lately. Also, the speed they have found recently isn’t from a 22 pound light chassis.

The weight savings is more than likely the welded in steel plates missing from the drivers side door. It also appears that some of the Blewett bar gussets are larger tubing, but are probably thinner walled to offset the weight. The front shock / Upper control are towers also look simplified with tubing instead of the multi-piece contraption that was on the XR1.
As for the intrusion plates bolting in, this should allow the car to flex more than a welded in plate.
