Seems like it use to be single car, single lap, repeat. Let the cream rise I say, to heck with all this "Wonder Wheel" deciding who starts where. These are suppose to be the "Elites" of the sport running on the most hallowed track, stop trying to manufacture drama, let Nascrap do that.

Amen. Not likely to ever happen, but we can hope.Originally posted by Henry Every View PostSeems like it use to be single car, single lap, repeat. I've seen sandbagging a bunch of times at Eldora. If the driver makes a perfect run thought the turns you can hear them let up on the throttle just nearing the the checkers. Bloomquist did it many a time. I guy like Charlie Swartz seemed to never sand bag though as he hammered it all the way. It's an art!If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention!

A little conspiracy theory here, but has anyone else notice how fast you can come up to lap Max Blair and then he turns up the wick and is impossible to lap and holds up the leader. Then when a certain driver who he was right away in Victory Lane with comes up , he pulls off the track. Time to get rid of Video boards for drivers to use as a Guage on where they are. Noticed this a few times lately. Figured I would bring this out in a perfect post in Sandbagging.

Firs time I was at Eldora for the Dream was 2007. Bloomer ditched his lap in qualifying that night & then skipped the scales on round 2. I think he thought his round 2 lap was "too fast" for the invert so he just dq'd it by skipping scales. Then they put in a rule for a while to try to prevent that. This was in the old 2 rounds of quals (1 lap per round).Originally posted by Buford.Justice View PostI've seen sandbagging a bunch of times at Eldora. Point is they have been sandbagging for a long long time.

I don't like using points based on qualifying, heats, and feature finishes. Anything can go wrong in a feature and you hate to see a driver get penalized for that. When McDowell wins both features and starts 6th in one heat and Davenport wins both features and starts 4th in another heat, the math should be adjusted.Originally posted by Snake X3 View Post
Right. And if the points ended last night and they spin a 6 on the wheel, Davenport would have been starting on the pole of a heat race on Saturday. If he wins the feature tonight and they spin a 6, he'll likely start top 3 in a heat on Saturday.
EDIT: I checked the points again just now and Davenport was 19th after Thursday, not 31st as I saw him listed earlier, so he would have started 3rd or 4th.

Wow! I did not know that. That's about as blatant as it gets. LOLOriginally posted by chathamracefan View Post

I agree there should be a better system, but in this case JD did take more of a risk by sandbagging qualifying. The higher up you are in points, the better your chances of getting a fast time provisional if you get a flat or taken out in someone else's mess. Dale is a perfect example of what could have happened with JD and he wouldn't have had the provisional to fall back on. But I agree. For the biggest race of the year, it sucks that drivers feel they have to sandbag to get a better chance to win.Originally posted by MRM View Post

Yes - we were sitting on the turn 4 end of the front stretch & it was very obvious to the ear that Bloomer let off the throttle a couple hundred feet before the line. And then I'm guessing one of his crew guys told him the time before he got to scales & then he just pulled off.

Hoffman was the points leader and started 6th in a heat whose best A main starting spot was sixth. None of it makes any sense.Originally posted by MRM View Post

Yep, before they switched to multiple nights the fastest always started 6th in the first heat with a best starting spot of 6th in the feature.Originally posted by 84wedge View Post
