We looked into trying E85 around here but our closest station is nearly 40 miles down the road and it's not far off the 91 octane price and have to go 'bout 100 miles over in Nevada to get the good stuff from VP but it runs almost the same as 110, which is $15-17 per gallon and burns more than the gas so that makes no sense. I do know a couple of guys, both who only run a couple of races a year, that run the pump E85 and they like it and don't seem to have any problems but don't know if they check the pump stuff for consistency, which I'm told is mandatory. A lot of our bunch are on alky but I don't care for all the maintainence issues. We experimented this season with blending pump 91 with the Torco booster and kicked the octane up to 102-105 and seemed to have no ill effects with power, mileage, heat, wear, etc. on a good fresh steel 404 12.5-1 engine. Also dropped our fuel bill about $7.50 per gallon. Running a series that pays $1-2K to win and $150 to start, involves a lot of travel with my 496, 8 mpg hauler and it makes a difference in how slowly I go broke.
