It would be interesting to find out from him if his schedule this year is because Lucas runs most of their races many hours from his house, primarily in the Midwest. I saw a while back some of the tracks he wants to race at this year and most of them are just a few hours from his house with similar payouts. We've seen a couple of other drivers from the South switch to WoO and drivers from the Midwest switch to Lucas.

That's a great point Ben, one that I'd never really thought about until you articulated it. Most of us "armchair" racers don't think about the week in/week out toll traveling for 9-10 months of the year takes on these guys, and the significant majority of them aren't really getting rich from it.

But how many people in Florida will decide to now go to Ocala because the #49 will be there?

I just don't think a series should stamp it's name on a race (even if non points) if we are making "special provisions" for pre selected guys to get into the race. That thing should be reserved for "special appearance" type of events. Not a sanctioned race. In the old days Ken Schrader would take an appearance $ to show up & race. That's fine, it was advertised as such. It wasn't advertised as a Lucas Oil or World of Outlaws race where one guy was guaranteed a provisional outside of the normal series provisional rules.

Most all tracks typically have a promoters choice provisional when lucas or woo is their. Usually given to the high weekly points guy that didn't make the show. The only thing happening here is bubba has chose to give it to Davenport if he shows up. Nothing wrong with that and i can understand that on Davenports part Ocala has a history of getting one laned and being hard to pass so one bad move and a guy could bury himself. But also I'm pretty sure as of this moment Davenport would still have a lucas provisional regardless but if anything this might help another lucas guy because now Davenport doesn't need to use a provisional that he knows should probably go to Sombody that's gonna run all year. Now we just need terbo to step on his cape so he gets up on the wheel if said event happens

Another thing that i don’t agree with: if it’s advertised/sanctioned by Lucas/WOO/ HTF it should be a points race regardless of the purse. East Bay and now Bubbas first few races were not points races. Why??

Their is usually a commitment date and it usually starts after Florida. I personally don't think a guy deserves a provisional just because he signed a meaningless agreement and paid a couple of dollars. Isn't that exactly like buying a start? Past loyalty should mean more than what someone claims they might do. It's been a known fact that many guys would "commit" to a series for all the garunteed product support aswell as provisional stats that come with it and have zero intention of even attempting to n run any tour. And whats wrong with htf dropping the points. At least their not also doing the purse like it's traditional. The whole reason they started playing with how and when east bay was for points is because it had to big of a weight in the rest of the year. It was a unicorn of a track and a guy could dominate their and it would carry him through nearly half the season. Should one track really mean so much for the whole year ? They basically reduce eastbay to have no more weight than your standard two or three day show

Oh I'm fine with the "promoters option" but as you said I have a problem with it being guaranteed based on a guys name before the event even starts. Provisionals are ok as long as they are "earned" in some form or fashion be it last year's points, this year's points, prior event winner, fast time or some other earned thing. Going beyond that I think has potential bad consequences down the line.

Never happen but I'd like to see JD be the only super in the pits. If he's that big of a draw, let him turn laps by himself. Better yet, put T Erb out there in a crown vic at the same time.

You don’t have to be a series regular - but my understanding is you have to be participating in the particular event where your trailer is at.
