Everyone seems to forget the Golden Boy Jeff Purvis, but he was as good as anyone in his short late model career.

I don't think anyone forgets him he just unfortunately didn't race long enough to to have the numbers. And as far as jd he's definitely knocking on the door for 3rd. the clowns that claim he was average before Rumley are just haters. People forget jd is only 42 during the Rumley eras he was in his early thirties before that he was a kid lol

I get your sentiment (I'm old fashioned too), BUT guys could get away with doing that back then. I don't believe building everything yourself would be sustainable today against the technology and resources of the top 2 (mainly 1) chassis manufacturer's.
At the end of the day, the cars do not drive themselves no matter how well they're built & setup. Props to JD.

I mean bloomer won the world as a 24 year old and little bobby done a lot of winning as a kid. Maybe JD just got settled down as he got older and that's when he started winning. I just can't compare a hired driver with a full crew compared to what Scott used to do. Just different eras I guess. Maybe bloomer had his cars better than anyone else and wouldn't be the winner he was without his input on the cars. How old was davenport when he started racing supers? I remember he was in those Bowyer cars and that didn't go well but didn't go too well for anyone.

JD started young, first time I met him he was actually driving for South Carolina's David Smith a little- he was in his early twenties (would say it was 2004 or so). He worked and earned his way to where he is; had his struggles but matured and is at the top of the heap. The Bowyer thing was always an issue, not just with JD. Rumley came along at just the right time and the rest is history.

Maybe JD's first real SLM ride was with Beaver Bail Bonds in Shelby, NC(?). He wrecked a good bit of equipment because he pushed the car too hard. Wasn't it a #75? Raced a good bit at Cherokee and Carolina. As for hid numbers, he is not finished. Just look at Golden Isles last week as an example. Like him or hate him, he has learned the trade; at a time when, IMO, there's a whole lot more competition at any given race.

i'm old school. Moyer is the GOAT. and maybe moran, freddy, boggs, etc shouldn't be dismissed. duvall? simmons? this could go on forever...

but i don't care if JD knows the different between a monkey wrench or a crescent wrench.

what he has done, and how he has done it over the last decade is as good as anyone.
