How do we Make local Short Track Racing Great Again (Dirt & Asphalt)?

I thought they knocked the one lane wide high groove out and flattened to s gradual banking thru corners? Didn't hear the show up pts only. Yea she was rough early but thought track did nice job thru night getting right for a pretty good feature. Shame on teams that pack their toys up early and go home because track isn't what they want. Fans paid to see drivers conpete!

Going home to go over the whole car isnt a option for some of them guys. Interesting to see how many break tonight from last nights abuse.

• Car count in the DLM’s amd Mods was respectable I thought.

• As for the track conditions. It sure did put the Hell in Hell tour. The Promoter said his peace on FB and apologized. Everyone had the same track conditions, so it is what it is. With the new clay as Nathan posted about, and the hot temps, personally, I think they over-watered the track from what I could tell. It was still very spongy in turn one when the night was over.

• I forget how distorted and bent DLM's look up close until I walk through the pits. Bob Memmer is rolling over in his grave.

• Morgs, “character” is one way to put it. It was certainly Not your typical Montpelier surface. It never developed a curby cushion to bang off of like the Notheren All Stars show on 4-11, or the non-wing show.

• chathamracefan, we had no rain for days, just hot. Show up points only was disappointing, but understandable.

• Jim, I was disappointed when guys pulled of in the feature too. I think a real grader would have helped, but oh well. They worked with what equipment they had in knocking down the rough stuff.

• I was thinking about going to Butler tonight, but I’ve never watched a good show at Butler, so I’m out.

My question is, what do you consider great. Big car counts in every class, only 3 to 4 classes, packed stands, no areo, fast cars start in the back, open trailers ect. ect?

I went to Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, WI last night. It was their regular Friday night show with a special something as the late models were on the card racing for $5k to win in the Wayne Roffers Memorial.

They had a great crowd on hand and perfect weather. The car counts were awesome but for me six divisions was a bit much. Late models ran under Dirt Kings rules and they had 24. They also ran Unified Street Stocks, IMCA Stocks, IMCA mods, IMCA Sport Mods, and 4 cylinders. The IMCA classes all had big car counts as well but I don't have exact numbers.

The props I will give to them is overall they did a great job. No qualifying and everything got started at the announced 6:30 start time. They did not d!nk around and waste time. Heats went off one after another and another. They ran all the heats and B mains and were ready for feature action at 9:10. No dragged out intermissions, just racing. They use two guys in the flag stand which I think is a great idea (but there's a but).

When the features came around the track was pretty slick, smooth and shiny. Now they don't have a big suite of equipment for track prep and farming and I don't think they have much time for that anyway as the track is right in town and likely deals with curfew issues. So the features had a few caution issues because of the slick and much less passing than the heats. Feature winners took the flag for a victory lap old school style which was really nice to see.

I'll be honest, I didn't stay until the absolute end of the program as I was up since 4:30 AM and still had over an hour drive home. I just couldn't take another yellow as I was getting cranky. I watched 3.2 of the 6 features and things were kinda going to the front row starters. Still made it home before midnight. Here is the "but" in regards to two guys in the flag stand. There should be a little division of labor beyond just handing flags and putting flags away for the main flagman. Don't be looking in the same direction all the time, one can focus on 1/2 and the other on 3/4 so things don't get missed. Now maybe race control calls the cautions and does it through raceivers so there could be that but I observed a couple misses (minor). Will I go back? Absolutely. I think they overall did fantastic with what they had and admission and food/beverage prices were also very fair. I'd rate their program as a success by a large margin but would I have been happy with one less division? Yeah, I would.

A few years back this track hosted a WoO LM race on a Tuesday night with minor support classes and it was one of the best one day WoO shows I ever went to. That night they had time to work with the track a little.

A fair and honest recap of your night at the races. Thanks for sharing. A lot of us long time race fans no longer want to be held captive at the track like the "good Ole days", especially if we have an hour or two ride home. Give us a three hour show and we are happy.

Thanks, I was really busy with my business and helping my mom out. I'm in a semi retirment phase of my life right now so I have more time on my hands. My son bought a condo so, I'm in the process of remolding it right now. I would check in every once in while to see what you guys were talking about.I wanted to chome in a few times but knew I would spend to much time on here so I reframed from commenting. Good shows have little bit of everything. Passing being number 1, not too many divisikns and respectable car counts (18-20 per division or more so feature full), track prep so passing occurs.

Obviously im ok with character and these drivers thst pack they're toys up in won't be supporting merch or other ways. Lets be honest, they say they're paying their own bills but truth is sponsor, merch, and winnings pay the bills. These drivers aren't sitting on an annuity fund that's spitting out million dollar profits yearly to support the team. Tired of the BS excuses. Shut up and race crybaby!
