800 wins is a gigantic huge awesome lot of wins!

Wonder how many races he started to get 800 wins?

Billy Moyer one of the best ever no doubt about it.

I've looked into it. He won a lot of races against a variety of competition just like Bubster said. Competition was tough in Iowa back in those days. I get refreshers on it every year when those drivers speak at Knoxville.

Should we dismiss what he has done because it wasn't against top notch competition every time out??? Then I guess we should dismiss what every athlete (or racer) has ever accomplished because part of there achievements weren't against top level competition.
It certainly has to be taken into consideration..........and in case you didn't notice, I'm dismissing nothing.
Are you one of those guys on here that just picks out certain parts of posts just so that you can make a stink.

Short of me saying he is the Dali lama of dirt racing I think I've acknowledged his legendary status in the dlm world.

All I'm saying is that he in no way back then is racing against the fields he or anybody else is consistently racing against today in woo, lucas,or any other current subsanction......

      Nothing more, nothing less.

And I'm no rookie either when it comes to following dlm racing for the past 30 years.....it's not new to me.

The guy is a haus...........but let's be pragmatic here.
No case to be made? You don't even know who half those guys are that Bubster mentioned above.

This may be the dumbest question ever. Questioning Moyers wins is laughable. Who else has won 6 globes?

You said he was legend..... But then questioned how good is actual competition was. To me that's trying to dismiss what he has done or make it seem like such a smaller accomplishment. Nobody has ever gotten all there wins against World 100 type fields.

Is the sport different now than it was back then? Of course it is, just about anything that involves competition is. Its tougher because of the technology available, not competition. A guy can go buy speed. You couldn't do that back in the day.

                  I did????

Actually what I think I said ( or at least try to imply) was that many of his wins back in the day came against less than stellar fields of cars.

Ok, maybe I should have said less than stellar full fields of cars..........in more recent times, every field these guys go up against are good.......back then, not so many full fields of great cars.

Have you noticed that his average number of wins per year have declined compared to back then????

And as a fan yourself and talking and listening to the old timers like you say, you cannot be serious that speed wasn't able to be purchased back then too.
They were building better mousetraps back then too.......just weren't teched as closely.

Again, just look at it and dig into it a little deeper before ambushing me into some kind of Moyer pariah.......not the case at all.

Is that because you say so, or do you have some facts to " make your case"?

And please, no answering a question with a question either like you do with everyone else you don't agree with.

Like I said earlier, I'm not exactly a spring chicken husker.

I'll make it easier.......just look at the first 100 he won, make a list of anybody note able other than billy..........then work the percentages.

It is because he mentioned multi World 100 winners and Hall of Fame drivers that he raced against. Yet you still dismissed what he accomplished.

So according to you we should dismiss what he did when he started out because it wasn't against top notch competition. He won his first series title in 1984, seven years after he started. He beat several of the drivers Bubster mentioned for the title.

What I'm saying was the driver made the car fast. Now, it seems drivers can just go out and buy what they want. The car makes the driver.

Then you aren't as up to speed as you think........guys were tricking out there cars searching for speed back then too.

Only difference is, they either had someone make what they were looking for , modified something that they already had, or made it themselves.

Don't kid yourself, they were still trying to buy speed back then, and as you already know.....the teams that were funded better back then or had better resources were the teams that were winning more back then.

                            A lot like today actually.

And don't forget either, that there is another little variable called track size and prep of said track......even with today's power, you still have to work both pedals differently to get around it.

Sorry I got everybody's feathers up on this deal, I'm not that guy..........because I do understand the point your making about the driver adding more to the equation back then.

I'm never said guys weren't tricking stuff out. That's what made them real racers, the ability to take what they had make it work, find a secret hear and there..... Push the rule book.

Guys are doing that now as well....... But they got a lot of technology at there disposal. Crew chiefs have engineering degrees. A local guy can go out and buy the latest stuff. If that don't work they'll move on to the next chaasis/shock combo.

                              Its a different now......
