    Crew Chiefs / Mechanics

What kind of compensation [ $$$ ] does a top notch crew chief require in todays world of Dirt Late
    Model racing ?

What are some of the requirements that these people require? Got to have a working knowledge of
shocks, tires, and all the workings of a competitive LM racing on a regional and national level.

I agree Necrosis. $500 a week is just barely more than burger flipping pay. 10% of the race winnings is more likely a weekly bonus on top of their guaranteed salary check.

Depends on experience and what you know. The best out there are making upwards of 2k or more a week.

                crew

From being around it most of my life i can tell you that 75 to 80 percent of these guys running up and down the road make from 250 to 450 a week. If you get in with some of your better finaced team like the Kinzer's and Lander's and teams like that you may be talking 1500 a week. As far as pecentages some get it most get a little kick back if the car wins, but i have seen anywhere from 1 percent to 5 percent. Needless to say we do it for the love of the sport not the paycheck.

Hold up a second. The original post says "What kind of compensation do the Top Notch crew chiefs require in todays world of DLM racing". I will not argue 1 comment about 95% of the guys that do this for a living and only getting $250 to $450 a week paycheck. But I know there is no way that the TOP 10 crewchiefs in then Lucas and WoO series get that pay. I would be way more inclined to believe they get a minimum of $650 a week up to maybe $1500 a week. But they also will receive some kind of extra compensation on what the car makes after every night of racing.

Chad, I do understand what you say about the pay and what "most" teams pay. I can't go with that on the top teams of the sport though. I can tell you this beyond a shadow of a doubt. I do it for FREE ! ! ! ! I love racing for what it is and I ask for NOTHING in return. I do get compensated with a few pit passes and some meals from time to time but I never ask for it. Never have and never will. I work my butt off every day as a salesman to pay for "MY" racing fix. Lord willing, I will be turning wrenches again all this year again too.

I know of a local drivers crew chief was getting free housing and food to move up this way and also a nice weekly pay check plus 20% of cars winning. He only lasted 2 years and now has moved on to another woo team this year.

I'm guessing Hargrove from DaveyJ to Wilmoth Jr.

What he is saying is Money talks, the reason the guy moved to another team is for more money. Money rules the world and like it or not it will till the end.

Back to the original topic, if i were a top 10 crew chief in Dirt Latemodels, I would have to be making at least $2,000 a week guaranteed or I wouldn't do it, of course this is just me and my opinion. Somebody that good with those smarts could make money somewhere else if they couldn't get it crewing a car.
