When bolting together birdcages, what is that gap you should have instead of having them bolted tightly together?

Im talking about the nylon retaining ring between the pieces of the birdcage.

BSB send a nylon ring that goes between the birdgage and the retainer ring on some of their stuff,no gap make sure its tight.

What kind of birdcage? Bearing or liner or steel? What brand? There are a lot of options and the correct answer depends on the style/brand.

They are TWM steel birdcages, I honestly have no idea what kind of mechanism they roll on because I havent had them apart. I took the rear end out this winter to have the chassis painted and noticed that the bolts were loosened up a bunch and was told that there was suppose to be so much tolerance between the nylon pieces.

Is there a grease zerk on your birdcage body? If so it's a liner style or metal on metal and it needs about the thickness of one of the nylon pieces for clearance between the birdcage and clamp. Set your outside clamp so the birdcage puts the bars are where you want them and pet the clearance to the inside clamp.

If there are no zerks it's a bearing style cage, I would suggest locating off the bearing races like BSB does so there is no friction against the body sides.

These load the sides of the races and really frees things up.

yes thes have grease zerks on the body and basically i need to snug them up to the nylon rings?

Yes, but make sure you can still rotate them by hand.

you will need to grease each week. I would suggest taking them off and cleaning the tube and birdcage every 4-5weeks. If money allows at some point i would get the bearing birdcages if for no other reason than they are less maintence.
