Direct drive power glide ?

Hi I am new to dirt racing my car came with a direct drive powerglide. With a ball valve can anyone tell me how this works? Or give me any tips with this. I can put in gear and go forward and reverse with valve open. When in track I can drive with it open or closed what is the proper position of the valve when racing

the valve is just used to get you going. close it when you are moving, or you will basically be in low all the time. once moving you use the shifter to go from low to high, just like a normal auto trans.

the valve will give u the feeling of a torque convertor. When locked up you will have no slippage in trans. Hit the brake hard motor will kill, cannot start motor if valve in wrong position. I used to leave it open to idle thru pits and onto track, shift to high to start race and ride break to keep rpms up, then just before green flag close valve to get direct drive. It was awesome

Thanks I was worried it would hurt something if I had it in the wrong position. But what you guys said make sence do I have to worry about opening valve durning race

only if you have to stop or slow way down. If you spin out it will need to be opened to restart and take off. open it after race to drive off track. You will have slippage in high gear under full power if you dont close it

Depends on how its built. The PG's ive driven with a valve will not move with the valve open. Start the car with the valve open, put it in gear and then slowly close the valve to take off. The valve worked just like a clutch in a manual trans.

They make "valve-less" valve bodies for direct drive PG's and they dont cost that much. They bleed off pressure in low gear and then go to full line pressure in high gear. If it was mine I would replace the valve body and get rid of the valve. Eric

The direct drive Powerglides started out with a ball valve that operated the valve pressure control from the (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)pit. This system was eventually replaced with a clutch pedal control, which is still common in many of the modified and late model series.
