I think I will add another thought to this thread instead of starting a new one. I already made my post on here about the question in this thread. I would now like to comment on what I think would be a much more fair way to decide a Nascar Champion. It goes something like this
1. 15 points
2. 10 points
3. 8 points
4. 7 points
5. 6 points
6. 5 points
7. 4 points
8. 3 points
9. 2 points
10. 1 point
To keep teams always trying their best
Finishes 11-20 minus 1 point
21-30 minus 2 points
30-35 minus 3 points
36-40 minus 4 points.Comment

TSF, are you talking about a points system for the whole season and an alternative to the chase gimmick? I could support a system like you describe without the chase gimmick. The reason for the minus points is that Nascar would never allow a point system that only depends on top ten finishes. It would park a lot of teams early in races and there would be fewer teams finishing races or at least trying to. The minus points have to be included in this scenario IMOComment
