A person, any person, can show emotion and passion without being an a$$hole but most times even that isn't good enough for some folks. I'd make a substantial wager that Jimmie Johnson is very emotional and as passionate about all aspects of his racing as any driver who ever drove a stock car. He has to be or he couldn't perform at the level at which he performs. He just doesn't act a fool and pick his nose and drop the mike and walk away, among other things. It's safe to say he wasn't raised that way. I'm guessing he was raised to be better than that.

It sounds as if it's a safe bet that you gravitate towards a$$holes and away from those with class, dignity and manners. Your honesty is appreciated, it's hard to rationalize, but appreciated, nonetheless. Unlike Power boy who is too cowardly to even clarify his hatred for ol' JJ.

There isn't much not to like about JJ, unless of course you harbor disdain for decent folks and have a soft spot for a$$holes. Birds of a feather, I reckon.

I like Truex and like his team even more and it appears you've got them confused with some truly mannerless jerk offs. They have to overcome some pretty significant disadvantages to compete at the level that they maintained all year. MTJ is a worthy champion and will represent the sport well. And he won it without needing the rules of the gimmick changed.

And, when it comes to Heineken I will admit to being a bit sensitive in that I wouldn't drink it if it was given to me in mass quantities! NASTY!

Unfortunately, nothing good comes out of California.

Agree driving for Hendrick is a huge advantage. Be calling Jimmy Dean Johnson "two time" if he drove Furniture Row.

Now, now. Don't be so hard on the strange land of fruits & nuts. I've been there many times and there are 3 or 4 nice dirt racetracks in Cali in spite of how f'd up the rest of the state is. One of those track's is Ventura Raceway and VR will host a traditional long standing (77 years, Turkey Night Grand Prix) Thanksgiving Day race tomorrow. Ventura Raceway is the coolest (sometimes literally) dirt track we've ever been to, by far!

I am with you 100% when you say JJ would not have 7 Cups driving for lesser funded team. The same has been said about The King and we all know the built in NASCAR advantages that arnhead enjoyed. Timing and fate play a big role in almost everything that happens in life.

I will give you credit for one thing, bj. You don't dodge the question and run and hide when asked why you don't particularly like a driver. I like that, even though the reasons may make no sense. Our buddy Power boy, aka TS FAN, just can't muster the guts to expose the rational for his long standing hatred of Jimmie and gets all pissy & hissy and runs like his hair is on fire when he's called on it. Oh well, we'll keep workin' on that! LOL!!

I understand your argument CIRF. Lets just say that the three drivers are the G.O.A.T. in their era. Even tho Petty and Earnhardt were from the old school era. Theyll be another driver come along in this new era to challenge Jimmie

Snort Bloomquist is originally from Iowa. "Rocket" Rick Mears is originally from Wichita, Kansas.

I'm good with that line of thought, dobber. They all 3 accomplished things that weren't done before, or since.

The King won 200 GN/Cup races, in 1967 he won 27 of 48 races, 10 in a row at one point during that season.

Arnhead was Rookie of the Year in 1979 and champion in 1980 which has not been done before or since. I think ol' arnhead even accomplished that before Billy France Jr. fell in love with him and saw to it arnhead was treated a little differently than everyone else.

Jimmie won 5 Cup championships in a row and won 7 in fewer starts and fewer years than either The King or arnhead. Not sure but JJ may have got 50 wins quicker than anyone in Cup history. If I'm wrong on that I'll humbly stand corrected.

It isn't at all unfair to say arnhead's Cup resume' is the least impressive of the 3.

Now, if you want to throw David Pearson into this deal I think he'd fit right in. Pearson was GN RotY in 1960. Pearson ran a full GN/Cup schedule only 3 times, '66, '68 & '69. He was GN/Cup champion in'66, '68 & ''69!! In 1973 Pearson ran 18 races for the Wood Brothers. He won 11 of those 18 races! Pearson holds the highest winning percentage in Cup/GN history at 61%. David Pearson never missed a scheduled start because of being injured in a race car. Doctor's once wired Pearson up with a heart monitor during a race at Darlington. They synchronized the heart monitor results with a video of the race. Pearson's heart rate would actually go down when he was racing in close quarters and passing cars, etc. Mr. Pearson was very comfortable in a racecar!

The one and only GOAT of dirt racing!

Im old enough to have seen all three race. My dads dirt team ran against Petty many many times. That's why I believe Petty will be the GOAT of Nascar. He done it on dirt and asphalt against some very very tough competition. A lot of the dirt drivers were dirt specialists and he outran them a lot.

25, you make a very compelling statement that can't be factually refuted in any way. Looking back that must have been very cool that your Father competed with The King!

Not taking anything away from The Kings' dirt accomplishments but I've read where Curtis Turner and David Pearson were as good as there ever was on dirt in stock cars.

I once read an article about the beach/road course in Daytona. Chris Economaki was the announcer at the North Turn where the cars made the transition turn from the beach onto the asphalt of Rt. AIA. Chris would keep a stop watch on Curtis Turner so he would know when ol' Curtis was approaching the turn. Turners entry into, and through the North Turn was so spectacular lap after lap Chris would announce Turner's impending approach by bellowing into the PA system "it's time for Turner!!!". Chris did that [i]every[/] lap! The way the article read is Curtis, in his approach, would throw the car sideways on the beach about an 1/8th mile South of the North Turn and scrub off speed in that way as opposed to using up the brakes to get into the corner. The brakes on stock cars in those days weren't all that good and they needed to be used as sparingly as possible.

No doubt, those 2 were great as well. Back in those days there were legitimately a dozen drivers. that could win each race. Ralph Earnhardt, Fireball Roberts, Leeroy Yarbrough, Flock bros could show up at any track and win. I was fortunate to have seen many of those great drivers race.

I was born and raised in Daytona Beach so Speedweeks was a special time at our house. Since my dad knew a lot of the drivers, there was always 1 or 2 that stayed at our house. I only wish I was a little older so I could remember more. My dad later became a crew member for Ray Fox's cup team and I remember being in the pits at Daytona, Atlanta, Charlotte , and Darlington.

Well done ! I once read an article where there were around 60 cars starting in an early race at Daytona.Curtis Turner was driving Ford convertible and started towards the back in the feature event. The story went on to tell that Turner passed 24 cars on the 1st lap and 11 on the 2nd !

That is some very cool stuff, 25. My recollection is nil since it was all before my time but I've tried to look at, and read, as much as I can from those days. I've read where Ralph Earnhardt was as good as there ever was on dirt.

My wife has immediate family living in Port Orange and we began going to winter Speedweeks in 1985, so I got to experience a few races at Big D prior to the restrictor plates. One year they had a gathering of cars and drivers from the era of which you speak doing a parade on the beach near the Dunlawton beach ramp and after the parade they put the cars on display and the drivers hung out out at the flea market just west of I-95. We got to hang out with and talk to guys like Ray Fox, Herb Thomas, Tim Flock, Rebel Mundy and a few more whose names escape me. There was a guy from the northeast (New Hampshire, Vermont, can't remember exactly where) who owned, and had on display, the only 1955 Kiekhaefer hemi powered Chrysler 300 known to still exist. It had been driven by Tim Flock and was essentially untouched from the time it had been last raced. The owner said they still find sand in the interior and frame from when it was raced on the beach in Ponce Inlet. It was incredibly interesting!!

I'll bet you've spent a little time at The North Turn restaurant. We make an appoint to go there for steamed shrimp and a beer every time we're in the Daytona Beach area. The ambiance of that place given the hallowed ground it sets on is very compelling to people who are interested in that sort of thing. I actually have a glass container full of sand setting on our mantle from the area where the north turn was located!
