NASCAR Lookin' To Regain Fan Base

CIRF I'm disputing when you were there and when they got trampled on. I was disputing my own accounts of the coke bottle I have and have had for 36 years. I couldn't remember what year it was and I found the bottle and it says 1983 so I was wrong go figure lol

Please don't ask my I still have that bottle. I can't believe it myself it's been through a few girlfriends, moves to different places but, now I tell my wife don't you dare throw that away lol

Kid, I knew it was an honest mistake. Since I spent a sizable amount of my yearly supply of disposable resources, which were rather limited at that time, to go out to L.A., and the manner in which our beloved Illini got their collective asses handed to them it's a date that will live in infamy in my little world. LOL!

I have the identical Coke bottle of which you speak along with a can of Illini Beer 1983 Edition, 2 Big 10 Champion/Rose Bowl beer glasses, a ceramic Big 10 Champion/Rose Bowl beer stein and an 11" X 14" team picture from '83. My wife, who was smart enough that she didn't need to get a degree to get a good job, has dusted and fussed over all of that useless paraphernalia for the duration of our marriage. I'm surprised it has survived 'till now!

Daytona and other tracks have painted all of the seats various colors to make it LOOK like someone is sitting in them even if they are not. Oops, that don't work too well on my Sony 4K TV. lol

How about the way that they had so many complete bleachers with a tarp over them at Phoenix ? It looked as if they were giant billboards !

All empty seats at NASCAR races must be filled with life size bobble heads of DW!!!!

Hopefully Dirt racing can survive on the pissed off ex-nascar fans for a while until they die of old age.. then not sure what the fix is... Nascar is $#&$ed any which way til sunday

The problem with all the various types of racing is a lack of interest. When I grew up, male interest revolved around cars and speed. I watched that interest erode over many decades and today, find no interest in racing, NASCAR or dirt, among the younger generations. I don't think a retrievable situation exists …. just a slow terminal cancer.

Cultural psychology is way, way above my pay grade so I can't/won't disagree with what you say at all, jog. But, I truly believe there is a correlation between the relative simplicity of the cars back in the so-called "muscle car" era and the complexities of today's automobiles and trucks.

I came along towards the end of the era of near universal youth interest in automobile's but it's a fact that most everyone in that era was not in a position financially to buy cars and just drive them. Cars in those days needed much more mechanical attention on a regular basis to keep them running and on the road. Most didn't have the money to pay someone else to fix and maintain cars. Most guys worked on their cars to be able to afford to drive them. So, there was as source of interest that was indigenous to owning an automobile. That, as often as not, sparked interest in making them go as fast as possible which also sparked interest in watching other people who made them go faster than the average Joe.

Then there was the cool quotient. If a guy that was good with a wrench had a cool fast car it rubbed off on others with how the word of mouth progression of trends has a tendency to do.

The cars that average people drive today are technically complicated to the degree that very few have the expertise to do anything more than pump gasoline/diesel fuel in them or change the oil and lubricate them. Of course there are exceptions, but not many.


It's just a theory but I really believe it has had a profound effect on the youth interest in car.
