That's our fundamental difference. I believe everyone should have the same opportunities regardless of the circumstances of their birth. There shouldn't be poor and rich schools. If Warren Buffet's children want his level of wealth, they should have to work for it like he did, not inherit it. Everyone should be successful based on their own merits, not based on whether their parents are wealthy.Originally posted by Barbecueboy View Postthey may not be born with the same opportunities , but it's because of what their parents did or didn't do before they got here.........and just because they aren't born with the same opportunities doesn't mean they shouldn't take advantage and work hard with the opportunities they do have to make themselves better, a concept that escapes most lefties.....and no you didn't use you in the general sense at all, nice attempt at covering though.

while i do some what agree with you in THEORY , IT WILL NOT WORK , just look at Europe and the other socialist countries that have tried this and run there country and economy in the ground , you squeeze the man with the money and in the long run it hurts every one , mostly with loss of jobs...Originally posted by mcarter815 View PostThat's our fundamental difference. Which countries have tried this and been run into the ground? I'm not arguing for the USSR.Originally posted by fastford View Postwhile i do some what agree with you in THEORY , IT WILL NOT WORK , just look at Europe and the other socialist countries that have tried this and run there country and economy in the ground , you squeeze the man with the money and in the long run it hurts every one , mostly with loss of jobs...

I'm not necessarily talking about warren buffets children inheriting his wealth instead of working for it, I'm talking about welfare generations working the system like their parents did and do instead of working to make themselves better.
I'm talking about just because you grow up poor doesn't mean you can't work hard and be smart to get out of that situation for themselves and their own children to come.
i guess it's kind of like your warren buffet theory in reverse........I don't believe that just because the parents grew up in a less desirable situation that the kids following should inherit that either.....they have the same basic choices and opportunities just like everyone else does.
Some just choose poorly and then blame everyone else for their own failure and say life isn't fair.
If the folks that work hard and took the chances on themselves were paid the same as the ones that didn't the hard workers would say screw it and become the lazy ones too because what's the point if everyone were equally rewarded for doing opposite ends of the spectrum work.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

I don’t believe a kid born to a poor family should have to work harder than a kid born to a wealthy family. Living on welfare isn’t fun and most people on it aren’t living a great life. Welfare queens exist, but they are overstated, and frankly not a big deal. 50% of jobs will likely be automated over the next fifty years. Only those of use who can program or create art or music will be useful to society by the end of the century.Originally posted by Barbecueboy View PostI'm not necessarily talking about warren buffets children inheriting his wealth instead of working for it, I'm talking about welfare generations working the system like their parents did and do instead of working to make themselves better.

I’m not arguing that everyone shouldn’t be paid what they are worth. I’m just saying privileged kids shouldn’t have a head start over the rest. There is no economy if most people are poor.

BBQ that sounds like the union I used to belong to ,,,,,,,,,,,,,all it did was protect The slackers so most good workers just got fed up and conformed !Originally posted by Barbecueboy View PostI'm not necessarily talking about warren buffets children inheriting his wealth instead of working for it, I'm talking about welfare generations working the system like their parents did and do instead of working to make themselves better.

Mcarter , the quote thingy isn't working so .....
I am all for equal chances for equal effort.....what I'm not for are equal results for unequal effort.
The whole welfare generation is a taught trait, it is not innate......if you think it's not prevelent then you are just in denial or you live where you don't see it.
You can't fault the child for growing up rich or poor......but you can fault their parents for not teaching them right from wrong.....if you want things to change then everyone has to play.
I'm in total agreement with your compassion for the kids that through no fault of their own have it rough, but giving them the rich kids parents money as some sort of reparation is preposterous.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

I read a story somewhere where a professor did an experiment for a semester and gave the class the average score from all the tests taken instead of giving the results individually and it resulted in class getting a failing grade because the slackers were slackers and the kids that use to study and prepare Said screw it , what's the point?Originally posted by dirtMAN007 View PostBBQ that sounds like the union I used to belong to ,,,,,,,,,,,,,all it did was protect The slackers so most good workers just got fed up and conformed !
It's a great metaphor for what I'm trying to say to Mcarter........but as he said clearly we fundamentally disagree.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Welfare queens exist, I saw plenty when I was an EMT, I’m just not that concerned about them. The rich will still be rich if they are taxed to pay for leveling the playing field. They just won’t be as rich.Originally posted by Barbecueboy View PostMcarter , the quote thingy isn't working so .....

One of the first things that need fixed is there shouldn’t be rich and poor public schools. Basing school income off property taxes advantages schools in wealthier neighborhoods.
