Sweden is not a socialist country
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the industrious out of it. You don't multiply wealth by dividing it. Government cannot give anything to anybody that it doesn't first take from somebody else." - Adrian Rogers

Right. A country can adopt socialist policies without being a fully socialist country.

So what's the point of working hard to better yourself and give your kids a better life than you had like (sending them to better schools, having a nice house to raise them in, and providing them financial stability for when they get older).

If I'm reading your posts right , you don't think it's fair that some folks work harder to provide for their families better than the ones that just want it given to them ??

we are all born with the same exact fundament rights , it's the choices you make ( or that are made for you by your parents)along the way that determine how those rights apply to your situation.

If you haven't earned the right to " go to Princeton or Harvard " then you aren't going.....if you haven't earned the right to have a nicer house, eat a fancier steak or wear fancier clothes then IMO you certainly don't deserve it on someone else's dime or effort.

Life isn't fair sometimes, but that's not going to get fixed by spending other people's money, it will get fixed when people accept the responsibility of their own actions.

Sure there are examples of egregious unfairness between the rich and the poor, but those are more the exceptions and not the common rule...........you seem to be ignoring the apathy of the people you mention who say " I want more" but when asked to work for it or at the very least strive to do better the standard answer is " nah, I don't want it that bad I'll continue to just ask for it".....again , there are exceptions to that.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Look at the US assistance programs.......those are about as socialist as you can get for the lifers, and it's a complete sham.

The rich will still be rich. The rich will still be rich. The rich will still be rich. Now that I've said that a few times, maybe it'll sink in.

A poor black kid born in a ghetto has a lot harder time living a successful life than a middle class white kid born in the suburbs.

What's your definition of rich??? And how would you feel if someone ( other than you)decided how much money should be in your bank account before they thought you just had too much of it.

And do you really think there would be as many poor black kids born in the ghetto if the parents knew they would have to work to support them instead of just getting paid to have them........it's a culture and a way of life for a lot of families, it's way more involved than just throwing the welfare queen label on it.

I agree with your compassion , i just don't agree your plan to implement it.

And btw......we grew up pretty poor so I'm not exactly naive to living from meal to meal.
I made the decision in high school that I wasn't going to live that way as an adult and worked hard to break that cycle.

I'd say rich would be people in the top 1-5% of income in the U.S. There is only so much money a wealthy person can spend. One person can only buy so many cars and TVs. Wealth stagnates at the top and doesn't benefit our economy. Wealth only benefits the economy when it's being spent. I'm already in one of the upper brackets and I'm childless, so I pay a lot in taxes every year already. However, I also get to live a comfortable life because of my being in an upper bracket.

The people living in ghettos are so disadvantaged that most of them lose any hope of getting out. That's why so many fall into the gangs. The gangs are viewed as the only way to progress in their world.

and when you squeeze the rich , 1-5 % , to take care of entitlements , you are also gone take jobs from the ones that want to work , which eventually leads them to entitlements , statistics show that if you take every dime these 1-5% makes , it is still a drop in the bucket to the demands of entitlements , this is not Sherwood forest , you squeeze the rich , you hurt the poor . the conservative view , and use to be the democratic view , was to help the poor get jobs so they were not on entitlements to start with , or at least get off them , but you go ahead McCarter and explain how you moderate democrat way of thinking is better........
