It lasted until 2000 or 2001. There are some on Youtube from 1988 up until 2000. So it did live past then, but Vogler's death was a blow yes I would say.

GREAT POST! I recall when SPEED was a small independent, maybe we would have been better satisfied if it would have stayed independent! Funny, competing with the BIG DOGS isn't what everyone wants to see. What is a BIG DOG ?

For some of you with less patience than me. I would like to list a few stations that do show racing and car related shows. Every few nights I surf the guide looking for shows to record.

                HD Theater
                MavTV
                Versus

MavTV has Lucas Motorsports Hour like Versus does. It's a crap shoot though. You never know what will be on. HD Theater has some car related shows. There was a series on the history of Hot Rods hosted by Chip Foose on the History Channel last year. It has been running on HDNet lately. It is a must see show.

Most handling problems can be solved by adjusting the screw-ball. It can be difficult to fine tune at times. Explaining yourself loudly and striking it on top of the helmet with a dead blow hammer usually works well.

While I have to agree that speed concentrates way too much on Nascar, I also realize their coverage of the truck series and other Nascar series pays the most and allows them to offer other series or races that may not pay as much. More or less it's a co-op. Nascar pays the big chunk and all the smaller series pay the remaining amount of the budget.

I would love to see them dedicate to a whole series of LM and Modified dirt races but not sure that will happen. Although they do show the Lucas WOO series. I would like to see them go around to small tracks around the nation and televise a night at the track. I like the Off Road series they show and never miss it. I used to like the coverage of Rally Racing they showed but I haven't seen it for a while.

All that said I don't call the shots so I guess we have what we have!

we can call the shot's if we e-mail them dily asking for more dirt racing. hell I'd watch and have watched riding lawn mowers race just not those lame shows ther passing off now. 10 best is the second worst behind only the car show.

The programs on Speed are there because the advertisers will pay the money for ads while they are on.

I was watching an AMA road race about 6 years ago and it had a rain delay during the race. It was live. They started racing again, and with a hella battle going on for the top three with two laps to go, maybe 1 /12 laps, they pulled the plug and went to some taped "Two Dorks Garage" or whatever. People went nuts on the superbike forums.

So, two weeks later I'm in the pits at Laguna Seca and Greg whatever his name is from Speed, the bald guy who does all the AMA bike racing is walking past so I collar him for a minute and ask him why Speed couldn't have stayed with the live broadcast for 3 more minnutes so we could see the end of the dogfight and he looks at me and says "Hey, pal, you come up with a million bucks and the Channel will stay on whatever you want for however long you paid for it. But until then, money talks and bullshat walks.." And he stomped off up the pit lane to go interview somebody. He was NOT nice about it, but I got the point.

He was sick of people asking him that question, cause he'd heard it a thousand times that weekend already. But he was right, it's all about the money, and whatever show will draw the money from the advertisers is what Speed is going to put on their channel.

Face it, you love your dirt racing, I love the dirt racing, but the advertisers don't see enough return on investment to advertise while dirt racing is on as the other shows generate. So we lose, they win.

He!! I've been a trucker for thirty something years and could care less about the American Trucker show....
Some people like me are truckers for a living, and some are truckers as a lifestyle.....the federal government keeps messing with it and I can't understand why anyone would want to get into trucking now....jmo

I would like to watch some more "Championship Oil Changing"...

They always seem to have plenty of that kind of crap paid for, and ready to go.

You're called "Speed TV", for goodness sakes... RACE SOMETHING!!!
                              Because Dirt's for Racin'...
