How about we all admit that using political status to enrich yourselves is wrong? That includes everyone on both sides.

I actually think we should raise salaries of congress members.

It would boost the quality of those running and ideally help curb corruption.

$174k isn't exactly a lot for what they do.

Elaborate if you would please. Not that I’d disagree with the dollar amount you noted as being low, per say, I’m wondering what you think a reasonable yearly salary would be?

Dang it, I sure cannot remember the exact wording right now —------ but wasn't the intent with our Elected Officials service originally supposed to be for a limited time, and not meant to be for making lots of money. That’s very poor wording but hopefully people get where I’m going.

$174k/annual maybe doesn't seem like a lot in this day and age but, look at the totality of everything involved in a compensation package for a congressional rep before going down the path of woe is they. I'm not saying that a bump up is not in order but there are things tied to their compensation package which goes beyond the simple $174k/yr in the way of expense accounts, staff hiring allowances, mailings, health insurance compensation, retirement packages, free parking in the DC area and airports (that alone is worth many thousands), book deals, some limited supplemental income (like for teaching or side gigs) etc. Not to mention, we still have some creative traders despite the light that has been shined on people like Pelosi.

Citizen legislators or careerists. Which ones do we want?

Oh for sure but if you want top-level people than you have to be prepared to fork out top level money. The things you mentioned are likely to be readily available for anyone worth a (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) and with a bigger pay packet.

There is value in career politicians. I think there is obviously a point where some people stay too long and probably lose touch but experience in politics is good. You need to know how to get stuff done.
