Democrat Chris Murphy - who opposed the successful raid to capture Maduro - gets confronted by CNN for previously calling for him to be outed.

CNN: "In 2019, you wrote an oped and you called for Maduro to be gone..."

I'll admit, I'm a bit ambivalent about this one. I'm America first and some of this interventionist policy runs a little contrary to that at times. I'm not about to go down the road of calling this snatch and grab operation a "war". It kinda seems like the people of Venezuela aren't too sad to be rid of this guy right now. We'll see how things flesh out going forward.

As far as the operation goes, kudos to the military and special operators because this was some next level sh!t right here. Maduro was living on a military base protected by his Cuban guards (because he couldn't trust his own military). The operators flew into that facility to do the snatch and grab within minutes! Two operators were wounded, not severely, and a helicopter suffered damage. The Cubans are complaining that 32 of their "citizens" were killed in the operation. Those were likely military advisors and Maduro's security detail.

Some can argue that this maybe falls under some Monroe Doctrine hemispherical security umbrella. Yeah, well, maybe. Venezuela used to be a jewel of South America and a very rich and thriving economy before the socialists ruined it. Hopefully they can return to something like that without too much further intervention.

Ok, here are my thoughts.

I am glad that Maduro has been captured.

It was a very successful and well ran operation...congrats to SecWar Whiskey Leaks.

This could be a very positive change for the Venezuelans depending on how this administration runs it. Would be hard to do much worse but who knows. It's clear Trump is doing it for one big reason. It starts with "o". Hopefully that is not exploited.

I have two issues.

The way in which the admin went about doing it. It violates all international norms. At least the Bush administration actually made an effort to get congress onside and go to the UN, where they, if you read the resolution generously, actually got approval. This sets a very worrying precedent. I could hear an argument that congress is too 'leaky' during this administration however I'm not sure that's a valid justification.

Secondly, Trump has now bombed as many countries in his this term as he did his entire first term. One of his big campaign points was that he was the president of 'no new wars' and a president of peace. Wrong. Another broken promise. Just like how he made a big deal about debt and then sent it to the moon. Some honesty would be nice.

Anyway this is a very good distraction from the Epstein Files.
