The original post says ''NASCAR'' driver.
He is definately one of the most versatile drivers ever but not even close to the best Nascar driver.
I would like to see some todays drivers on the old tires and see how they stacked up then.I would say Tony could adapt,Kyle Bush also and a few others. But most would find out how good they really were/were not in a hurry.

If you won't to compare Petty and Pearson then compare them the right way. 1- Petty, Owned, Built, Worked on, Set-Up, and Drove his own rides.... Pearson ONLY Drove someone else's cars.( and to those who don't think that means anything, try it for 1 year and you will see my point) Numbers don't mean a thing to a real race fan. ( The ones that know what to look for in a real Race Car Driver) There's some drivers that run mid pack or worse that are (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) good drivers. Put them in a high $ car and they to would put up good #'s to, to the number watcher's. Watch the drivers NOT the numbers and then compare, You will be surprised...
