Morton Grove, Illinois is a suburb of the huge city of Chicago, where no doubt, some Chicago residents will travel by car for the purpose of armed robbery and other crimes. Kennesaw is a far more rural community, much farther from a larger community, where most crime will be by local residents.Originally posted by F22 RAPTOR View PostKennesaw, GA has a local city statute that every home owner must have a gun in the home, they have nearly no murders or violent crimes... More guns in the right hands can do wonders. I still want to know how he got in the school since they had a security system that requires buzzing in, anybody know??
FBI crime statistics for 2003 provide the most recent equal models for comparison of the two cities which are roughly comparable in population. Morton Grove has 22, 966 and Kennesaw 25, 183 for the purposes of this 2003 actual crime figures comparison.
In 2003, Morton Grove had 2 murders and Kennesaw just 1. But both figures are subject to yearly fluctuations, where some years neither community will have an incident classified as a murder.
In 2003, Morton Grove had 4 robberies compared to 7 in Kennesaw. The Kennesaw figures are much higher than Morton Grove's for that year, and guns are often the weapon of choice in a robbery.
In 2003, Morton Grove had 12 aggravated assaults compared to the higher number of 15 in Kennesaw.
In 2003, Morton Grove had 70 burglaries compared to the much higher number of 89 in Kennesaw. Many burglars may carry a gun in case of being surprised by security or a property owner.
In 2003, Morton Grove had 390 incidents of larcency and theft compared 455 examples in Kennesaw.Curious that we spend more time congratulating people who have succeeded than encouraging people who have not.

Haters don't really hate you, in fact they hate themselves because you are a reflection of what they wish to be.

One less murder, and much higher "violent crime". You're smart enough to know basic math.Originally posted by mudslinger47 View PostYa got nothin GRT, he stated murders and violent crime, Kennesaw had 50% fewer... There are attacks when people have guns and there are attacks when people don't. Just because you have more guns does not mean you won't have attacks but, I do agree gun control is not the answer. There are just to many guns in circulation right now and the bad guys will always be able to get their hands on guns so, you might as well let everyone have a gun and we can go back to the days of the wild wild west.

I don't disagree, there will be attacks. But a little research into Australia mass shootings from 1980 onward revealed the following.Originally posted by kidrock View PostThere are attacks when people have guns and there are attacks when people don't. 1984-1996 6 mass shootings, 72 dead, 80 injured.
1997-2012 1 mass shooting, 2 dead, 5 injured.
1984-1986 Weapons used include M1, M14 carbines, a Chinese SKS military assault weapon, and in the biggest assault in 1996 (35 dead, 32 injured) a AR-10 semi-automatic military assault style weapon and 30 round high capacity clips were used.
2002- Guy armed with 6 pistols kills 2 and injures 5.
1996 is when the assault weapons ban was instituted.
In many of the previous mass shootings, a variety of weapons were used, but in only 1 (the last one prior to the assault weapons ban in 1996) was a semi-automatic version of an assault weapon used with high capacity magazines. That single mass shooting, using the military style assault weapon, accounted for almost half of all the dead and injured of all the mass shootings combined.
In 2002, the shooter had 6 pistols and was tackled and subdued after he stopped to reload, preventing him from killing even more.
Make of it what you will, but it would appear that maybe removing the most dangerous weapons with the greatest capacity to fire the most high powered rounds at the fastest rate MIGHT be an idea, if we want to reduce the amount of deaths and injuries when these incidents occur. And we all agree, I think, that these shootings will continue to occur.
And one more thing.... Yes, criminals will still get their hands on these guns if they really want to. Agreed. Can't be stopped. Banning assault rifles won't stop criminals from getting them if they want them. BUT....
"Criminals" are NOT the people carrying out mass shootings. They became criminals when they committed the mass shootings, but it wasn't known Gang bangers that shot up Columbine, Aurora, Gabby Giffords event or the most recent Newtown shootings. Mentally ill people did. And generally speaking, from what I have observed, the town crazies aren't hooked up with the criminal world to get their weapons. They get them from Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle or just walk into a store and buy them legally.
Which just leaves the question why are they legal? If these extremely efficient killing machines were NOT legal, then Lanza doesn't get one. Makes sense to me, but I am a gun owning left wing liberal tree hugger gun owner, I guess...Last edited by t.nie; 01-11-2013, 01:31 PM.

I know this was seventeen years ago, but the players were much the same with Clinton as president at the time. This woman has been riding this gun control thing for a long time.Last edited by Clayton_Wetter; 01-11-2013, 02:55 PM.

That was 17 years ago, and it never happened. What gives? Oh, that's right, we have a Constitution, that's been upheld many times by the SCOTUS.Originally posted by Clayton_Wetter View PostWhat does Feinstein mean on this video?
