If we have more people making 35,000 to lets say 45, or 50,000 a year just think what that could do for economy. Yes they would have extra money to spend therefore more demand for goods and services.
Yep, unbridled capitalism isn't good either, so I will gladly concede that regulations are needed. What reasonable people can disagree on is where to draw the line.

Without a doubt the best way to reduce our annual deficit is through a vibrant expansion of our economy or more people working at a higher salary as your example provides. It has the positive effect of increasing revenue while decreasing the need for governmental programs.

I think if countries like China had to follow the same EPA and OSHA regulations our companies have to comply with, then that would be a good start.

I concur. Back during the Nixon Administration the line of thinking was that through the process of engagement the communist threat could be thwarted, perhaps it still can, but I grow skeptical.

Your last sentence is the remedy for almost all of our problems and I quote;" I think that all of us could correct this problem by not buying these foreign products." We as Americans have free choice, if we become deeply committed to reducing that trade deficit we can vote with our wallets and "Buy American." Nimble retailers will exploit that market as soon as it becomes available. I love Tom Clancy Novels and in one of the last ones the plot was a second war with Japan. A subplot was that through some miscalculations by Japanese Businesses Americans started shopping by looking at where the product was made. It became evident to the Japanese (they were again delusional) that they needed to strike the American Navy to reduce our influence in the Orient.

You bet they did, that is why there is a revolt inside the Republican Party today. Power is an intoxicant and it went to some of their heads. They decided to retain power through the age old process of "vote buying." That is why a good many of the so called "moderates" were sent home, they essentially no longer had and principles.

At some point in the near future we will have to renegotiate our trade agreements with China. Until then we should uphold our portion of the deal.

Now that China has a middle class the people will no longer be content with the meager scraps they get to survive. It is my thought, and Adam Smiths, that we all want a better future for ourselves and our children and China will evolve toward a more open and representative government answerable to it's citizens.

A budget could be passed if the Democrats wanted too. There is no way a reasonable person can lay this one at the feet of the Republicans. I'm sure this will illicit some responses, but before you do, take a good look at the White Houses actions instead of their rhetoric and find some evidence they are serious. Remember that the Republicans did indeed send budgets up the last two years to the Senate where they sat "Dead-on-Arrival." Absolutely no effort was put forth by the White House or Democratic Senate Leadership to forge a compromise budget which has been the normal mode of operation for the past century.
