Throw the apple in the air and see it rotate. That is because there are more forces than your throw and gravity affecting it. Also bet it don't land in the same spot you threw it from, unless you compensate trajectory. The apple never stops moving, spinning, arching rising or falling.

Take a claw hammer by the handle and toss it in the air rotating the handle 360 degrees, catching it it the same position you tossed it from. Now notice the business end. The claw and the head have changed positions. This comes from other forces. That hammer will never stop moving nor will the apple or the train or the car, unless you can negate these other forces.

If or when you can negate these forces, you will be able to stop tides, make toilet water fall directly down the drain and you will have the fastest race car on the planet.

Did you ever figure out where you could indeed take those other forces out of the mix and get to straight forward and or straight back ( or up/down etc.)?

I'm not the hating kind. There is no where I know of that all external forces could be eliminated. Even if you took it to outer space, you may negate the earths gravitational force, but you would still have the forces that orbit planets or create tides. You could take an airplane and dive at around 120 mph and off set gravity, but you would still have the other forces. Sorry, your going to have to find your own way to prove Barbecueboy's law. It would probably be easier to disprove than prove. I think there is a law about this already, but I'm lost for naming it.

You do know that we all are traveling at a high rate of speed so anything you think is at rest is not. It's just relative.

As a matter of fact, that was a trick question on a Physics test. If you where traveling east on a train, how fast would you have to run backwards to remain in one spot.

Short the needed incredible gravity it is impossible for any object to come to a rest with out it being able to accelerate to the speed of light as our galaxy is speeding away from the point of the Big Bang at nearly the speed of light. Not to mention how fast our known universe is moving from the object that created it.

I don't hold a degree but I slept in a Holiday inn once. My sister who retired as a Professor from ASU, eloquently put it once. A formal education means nothing if you don't learn, retain and apply. As she put it, her job was not to teach people things, it was to teach them to learn and be critical of learned information. In other words, not what to think, but how to think. This seems to be a lost art today. Maybe there is too much information or information pushed to the public as fact and the recipient can pick the parts that trigger his endorphins and confirm with out critical thinking. If you can't ask why and not lie to your self, you condemn your self to being a fool.
