If they actually submitted the clean funding bill in the House. We would see in midterm elections, who was educated. I don't think there are many that want to sign their name to a default. As it is now they can just blame it on the other republicans.

I'm afraid the GOP shot their self in the foot again. After the last Presidential election, I expected no less, and you call them educated. I used to be a republican, I didn't leave them, they left me.

Now that has to be the funniest thing I have heard in a while. Hey believe what you want I don't really care but, like I said to bad we do not have a news corp that was unbiased and actually did tell us the truth. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this subject. Keep listening to your beloved FOX news. I know they at least tell you what you want to hear. I know I will now hear from the peanut gallery on this one with their beloved fox news.

Freshman Congressman Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) James Madison Congressional Accountability Act preventing Congress and their staffers from received an exemption from Obamacare, passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, as part of the Continuing Resolution. According to DeSantis’ office, the bill “prohibits the Obama administration from issuing special and unauthorized subsidies to members of Congress and congressional staff for use on the ObamaCare exchanges.” - See more at: http://shark-tank.net/2013/09/30/hou....ZCPFCOxb.dpuf

We lost a point for one quarter last time these games where played in Congress. More money was spent on interest than what they where bargaining for as cuts.
Actually there is a ton of fear mongering going on concerning the debt ceiling. The U.S. CANNOT (Constitutionally) default on it's obligations. Of course this president and the democrats don't put much stock in the Constitution, so maybe we do have something to fear.

My reply was to mudeater about the Forbes article he quoted. Cant help but notice he didn't respond to the content of my post, but instead threw out the Red Herring of making it an issue about Forbes as a source, instead of fessing up that you didn't have the foggiest idea about the actual, FACTUAL circumstances surrounding the replacement of employer contributions for Congress and staffers and the FACT it was NOT a subsidy for them, but instead just "making them whole" since they would take a significant paycut when they lost their employer based health care. All due to a stupid political stunt by a GOTea Party A-Hole.

Why would a Conservative want to "teach people to fish?"

                    1-Teachers cost money.
2-If people know how to do their own catching of fish, they don't need anyone else to buy fish from.
3-If people don't need anyone to buy fish from, then the sellers of fish go out of business.
4-If the fish sellers go out of business, they lose their mansion, yachts and private islands.
5 If they lose their business, mansion, yacht and private island, they may have to go back to catching fish.
6-If they have to be taught to catch fish, they need a teacher.
                    7-See #1.

No. Conservatives most definitely DO NOT want to teach people to fish. Conservatives just want a good supply of labor to exploit and a healthy profit margin with no regulations from the government for the Fish Business.

At least the debt ceiling is REAL, unlike the fake WMDs in Iraq.

I don't think anyone knows what might happen if America defaults, but you know what? I can't think of one GOOD outcome from it. Every scenario is bad. And quite frankly, I think the Tea Party idiots are wanting the SS checks/Veteran Benefit checks to not go out. I think they want the US to default. I think they are playing this game because the end game here is to make as many people HATE their government as possible.

If it really comes down to it, I think that is the ultimate goal-removal of all government authority in America.

                        I agree kid.

I've wondered if it wouldn't be a way to FORCE Congress to make the CUTS they should have been making looooong ago. But, then again, I know the media would assist the President and the Dems. with sounding the alarm bell instead of actually doing the cutting. Then all hell breaks loose with the stock markets, interest rates etc.

Then you have Nancy Pelosi (quite possibly the dumbest congressional member) saying "there are no more cuts to make." WHAT? How can a person with ANY functioning brain cells make a comment like that?

It also amazes me how the President can bold faced lie and say that raising the debt ceiling has nothing to do with increasing the nation's debt. Someone explain that one to me!

I am glad that the House has passed my amendment; now the Senate must decide whether they are so insistent on receiving special treatment that they are willing to shut down the government to protect these unauthorized subsidies.”-Rep. Ron DeSantis
About the specific amendment you are pointing to that you claim did all these things?

1-It was an amendment to the CR.
2-It didn't fully fund the ACA.
3-It didn't "block the special deals and carve outs" it only address one item-it removed the compensation to be paid to congressional staffers, who, by the way, lost their employer based health care (and the employer contribution toward it, just like everyone else with employer based health care gets) because of an asinine political stunt pulled by some GOTea pary A-hole. These people aren't getting "a subsidy," they are getting their pay restored after it was stripped from them.

Just keep on showing your ignorance on issues, its ok. It's what we've come to expect from overly emotional, hypersensitive, touchy but ill-informed conservatives on 4m.

Since you seem to be the designated Obama defender here t.nie, how about explaining how raising the debt ceiling was "irresponsible" and "the wrong thing to do" when Obama was a Senator, but now it's "the responsible thing to do" and "must be done." Tell me that t.nie, WITHOUT skirting the question and bringing up something else.

After you answer that one (which I know you can't do without hurling some insults or name calling and avoiding the question), you also never answered my question as to why Obama can delay implementation of the Obamacare "law" for his chosen few, but it's unreasonable for the republicans to think that a delay should be given to everyone.

Just a couple straight forward answers would be appreciated.

Simple explanation-the debt of the nation is the bills we have already incurred. The debt ceiling is setting a higher credit limit so we can borrow the money needed to pay those debts already incurred.

Just because your bank raises your interest rate on your home, it doesn't mean you are paying the seller more for your home a few years later. It means you are paying the bank that loaned you the money more for loaning you the money.

The same with the debt limit. America has agreed to pay for stuff. We have to borrow money to pay for that stuff. Our credit limit isn't high enough to be able to borrow as much as we need to pay for stuff. So we increase the credit limit so we can borrow the money to pay for that stuff.

The stuff we buy on credit? That is considered the national debt. The interest we pay on the money we borrow to pay for stuff? That is considered cost of financing and is not calculated as part of the national debt.

I agree with you, on the face of it, more money borrowed equals more money to pay back and more interest, so that "interest on top of principal" is more debt, no two ways about it. But on Capitol Hill, they don't see things that way. And its not just this President, its been every President for as long as anyone will remember.
