Mr. Johnson wins his 6th cup championship

Congratulations to Jimmy Johnson for winning his 6th Cup Championship in just 8 years. He tied ironhead earnhardt for Cup Championships won. To clarify, ironhead only won 6 championships, regardless what the record shows. Ironhead, childress and NASCAR fuked Mark Martin out of the Winston Cup Championship in 1990.

Jimmy Johnson is the best pure driver that has won the championship since Alan Kulwicki. Way to go Jimmy, you bring class & dignity back to the Sprint Cup Championship following it being soiled by the likes of baby stewy or Keselowski.

We may well be seeing the best that ever drove a stock car in Jimmy. I hope he wins 8 so the ironhead diehards will be silenced forever!!

The thread starter might have done well to just to stick with the Johnson part and not dis several other drivers. BTW teams win point titles, not drivers. Cars for the 48 team have dominated races for 11 years. You give any good driver the dominate car and a team who makes few mistakes and a he is going to win a lot of championships. Matt out drove Johnson all year when he had a car to run with him. The facts are on the track. I think Harvick did more with less too. The 48 was the dominate car all season, again. Facts are on the track. Credit goes more to Chad and his gang. Johnson did his job, but I didn't see anything about his performance that separates him from other top drivers. Nascar races are a long endurance battle for the entire team. But no driver is going to win without a great team giving him the opportunity to run up front. Hasn't changed since the start. Give Johnson a pile of junk like Matt got at Phoenix and see how things would have turned out. Drivers have to rely on what their team gives them.

As far as I'm concerned, although he is one good driver, he has never won a championship. This Chase thing stinks and if they don't win them like the King or the Intimidator did, they just didn't win them.

Fact is, JJ has 6 rings in 8 years. Discount his driving ability all ya' want he's still got 'em and won 'em fair and square unlike some in the past. All the other stuff about who had the best stuff is just conjecture. Can't be proven and that makes it conjecture. The stuff about the NASCAR basically taking away a championship back in the day can be proven and is well documented.

Harvick did more with less? Prove it! Childress and the 29 team didn't have as good equipment or personal as Johnson? That would be a little hard to prove, especially by an outsider, and I would guess the guys on the 29 team would take exception that they are in someway inferior in expertise to the 48 team.

Highside, your absolutely right, Johnson is no King. Although, I don't think he wants to be, I think he merely wants the respect a 6 time champion within an 8 year period deserves.

The Chase is a terrible way to determine a champion, but it's the same for everyone out there now. I don't like comparing drivers from different eras, but I don't think you can deny Johnson and the 48 are the best of this era just as Petty and Earnhardt were in their time.
