    Dirt Million

Does anyone really understand the concept of the Dirt Million?I know that it is guaranteed to pay $100k to win and $2k to start. Other than that, I'm not sure I understand the concept? Does Cody want fans to "donate" money to the race to increase the pursue? "Sponsor" their favorite driver to guarantee them a provisional in the race? All of that is fine and good (I guess) but what does the fan get for donating money?

Satisfaction and a little recognition. Pretty much same thing all sponsors get involved with Motorsports.

Seems a little sketchy to me. The promoter gets all the praise and glory while the people that fund it.... get what? I'm pretty sure the media aren't going to say "person X donated $1000....how great". Instead it will be "promoter praise....promoter praise...promoter praise". So....lets praise someone for a "GoFundMe race"? I don't get it.

I love everything about this race, but a fan or manufacturer sponsoring a driver to get them a guaranteed spot in the A main is horrendous. Hope that is not the case here.

Where does it say that you are FORCED to donate anything beyond the admission price?

It has been discussed on here before. It is a little sketch for sure. At the least, it is misleading advertising. The provisional deal is troubling to me as well.

@brsteg you kind of prove my point. I get the "privilege" to donate money to a race and STILL have to pay to watch it either live or on PPV......

I don’t understand why people think it’s sketchy. No one has to donate any money for the purse to go. As was said before, the purse grows by purchasing tickets, suites, shirts, as well as other items that are supposed to be on the site. If you want to add an extra $100 or whatever then I’m sure you can but that is not the only way for it to grow. It’s an unique concept but I don’t see how unique means it’s a bad thing or makes it sketchy. It’s not much different than any other big race when you break it down and look at it except this has the opportunity to grow the purse. The only thing that I would like to see different is that as the purse grows, add money to the B mains so that more local/regional guys will come.

Between the false advertising of naming the event the "Dirt Million" considering there is no guarantee of a Million dollar purse, fans (and not Cody himself) increasing the purse thru various methods, and the drivers being forced to turn safety equipment and sheet metal over to Cody, I wouldn't goto this race if it was at my home track. So many things wrong with this event in my opinion.

This is the biggest joke I have ever seen in racing just throw money at it and if we get enough will add it to the purse and it might get to a million this could work but not the way they are doing it and the ones that get the most money in there name are guaranteed a starting spot sounds like a big pile up then if you win you have to give them half you car if you start the race you have to give them your door panel it goes on and on earl run for a true million without all this.

Via the Dirt Million Twitter page.
Race purse is now $250,000 total due to Arizona Sport Shirts kicking in $50,000 to the total purse.

ALSO here is a bit more info on the race.

I love how everyone says that racing needs more energy and new ideas, then when someone tries something everyone freaks out even though it doesn't effect them at all. Buy a ticket and watch the race. What he's doing is no different than asking for sponsors. Anybody who's against this is also foolishly against any tracks looking for sponsors.

I agree. Some times a big idea is mind boggling for some.
