Might get to a million might not but I applaud cody for trying to be innovative and grow the sport.. don't like it Don't donate.. or just stay home I'm sure the stands will be full with or without you, the $50,000 kick in by Arizona just made this one of the highest guaranteed purses in the country, no matter what else happens it's all gravy, I honestly don't see what could go wrong with this event besides track conditions..should be a big show and I'll be there

We all understand perfectly. Call it the go fund me 100 and it's cool. I went to the Eldora Million. No gimmick. Moran knew what the check was going to say.Originally posted by HoosierDirtFan View PostI agree. Some times a big idea is mind boggling for some.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

The schtick is the minimum is $100k to win but here's where I get lost. If the money from suits, ticket sales, merch, etc increases the payout to $250k etc...how are they paying for the original $100k to win? Where is that money coming from? Is it all coming from sponsorships? It can't and the entry fee won't cover all of it either. It's also a "play" that Arizona gives a $100k to the event. Why? Because the kicker is all shirts sold will be Arizona. So are they really investing $100k? No, because they will be recouping money from merch sales. Quick math.....$100,000/$30 shirt = 3,333 shirts. Lastly, the social media aspect of earning points by posting and sharing Dirt Million info is going to turn drivers social media feeds into spamfest....and it will cause them to lose a lot of followers because of it....and that HURTS the drivers in the end. So is the event really in the best interest of the drivers? Or is this just using drivers and their social media accounts as free marketing for the event and prays that it is a huge success.

Wow, you have no idea how businesses work, do you? Purse money comes from ticket sales, concession sales, apparel sales, etc. That's how every racetrack works. This is such a simple concept, and even though it shouldn't, it does surprise me that people can't wrap their heads around it. Since when do we expect promoters to lose money on these events? That's a typical liberal mindset. And even though how if effects the drivers really doesn't concern most of the people on here, apparently they're OK with it since they all have it on their schedules.Originally posted by MMLLC View PostThe schtick is the minimum is $100k to win but here's where I get lost. I know how business and race promotion work. When a promotion gives a payout based on car count, it is frowned upon. This is really no different. Just more complex.Originally posted by GEAR_HEAD View PostWow, you have no idea how businesses work, do you? The guaranteed purse isn't based on car count, so you're point is moot. Even if no additional funds were raised what's wrong with a $200k purse?Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View PostI know how business and race promotion work. It's the same as a $2k to win That says based on 20 cars in fine print with $500 gauranteed.Originally posted by GEAR_HEAD View PostThe guaranteed purse isn't based on car count, so you're point is moot. No, no it's not. A guaranteed $200k purse is not the same as a $2k to win purse. You seem to really struggle with numbers.Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View PostIt's the same as a $2k to win That says based on 20 cars in fine print with $500 gauranteed.Last edited by GEAR_HEAD; 02-28-2018, 10:10 PM.

Cedar Lake has had the Fans Fund (through donations and sponsors) for quite a few years which pays for some drivers to come up for the Nationals which has been a success, I do not see no harm for this promoter to try something like what he is doing, if it works that is great and if it does not, well at least he tried. But I don't see the need for all the negativity for it already, if you don't like the idea, don't go.

I know I would be upset if I was expecting $125,000 to win and that big check ended up being $250,000 instead

You seem to struggle with conceptual arguments. If its a big deal. Be honest and transparent about what it is.Originally posted by GEAR_HEAD View PostNo, no it's not. A guaranteed $200k purse is not the same as a $2k to win purse. You seem to really struggle with numbers.
I don't believe misleading is ok just cause you pay out big money. Why not call it the dirt billion?Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing
