Why are crate late models even a thing?

Can we all agree that crates are stupid and pointless? No one in the history of racing has ever cheated in a class with engine rules. Unless your sanctioning body is doing a super good job teching cars and banning cheaters for like 10 years, it won't work. A better way to do it would be take traction away so that a stock crate engine would be almost too much horsepower. I suppose this will fall on deaf ears. Prove me wrong.

    1. Not everyone can afford a 50k motor.... 2. Tracks can't afford to pay super purses on a weekly basis, but fans want to see late models every week... 3. Some Late Model drivers want to get used to driving the cars before moving up to supers.... 4. A lot of these drivers are kids trying to learn. If you throw them in a super field and put 800hp under them you're increasing the odds of people getting hurt.

Because limited late model motors are 20+K. That’s why crates are a thing.

The Crate race at Charlotte the other week was fantastic! It is on Dirt ON Dirt....
DirtonDirt.com covers Dirt Late Model racing like no other publication, magazine or website with massive amounts of original content including videos, photos, stories, columns, blogs and more. Eldora Speedway's World 100 and Dream, the Dirt Track World Championship, Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals and all the major races are covered along with the major tours, including the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

I think its getting better and better I used to hate Crate racing. Its pretty good here in the Carolinas with strong fields at any track.
Now would I rather see Supers race? Of course!

Here's my response to each point. 1. Of course not everyone can have a $50k motor, that is what lower classes are for.2. I'd be ok with a lesser late model class that pays less. The way to do it is run 8" tires, take off the huge noses and spoilers, make them 3 link, have a rule where your left rear has to be chained at frame height, and have a rear percentage rule. The whole purpose is to take away traction so you would need a $10k-$15k motor to compete. A bigger engine would be too much horsepower.3+4. Kids can race mods or street stocks before moving to late models

Yep! If you can't get away with cheating on the engine they'll spend a ton of money on lightweight parts to get a little more speed out of that weak motor. Lol

They already have this class, it’s generally called pro stock or sportsman. You aren’t very bright.

They're more than that here in East Tennessee. That's why the numbers are dwindling.

Might as well just run a b-mod at that point.

Josh Bayko is right. That's what I've seen. Either a pro stock type/sportsman.

heck....lets just re-set the clock and run 1936-39 coupes and call them modified-sportsman.

Maybe we can raise Curtis Turner, Ralph Earnhardt, and Leeroy Yarbrough from the dead to drive them! smh

If you support Crates, then you are also supporting the end of weekly SLM....or maybe even any LM races at all unless your track can get Lucas, WOO, ect.
