Hope they get some rain early in the week and are able to put on a great show next weekend.
With a million gallons or more just behind the backstretch. Dunno if they need new clay, or what. Either way, they need to do something.
      We'll miss ya Doc Watson...

Brownstown was ONCE a must see race....
Now I'd just soon drive 3 times the distance to see a good horse race...
But it has nothing to do with the promoters lack of interest in putting on a good race, because it has EVERYTHING to do with it!!!
Like Clayton stated, it takes 10s of thousands of gallons water over many hours to get it right... If you're not on track the night before race day, you're late... I was a little fella but, I remember many times going to Barren County Speedway on Friday night's after school and watching track prep...this pissing on a flat rock so called track prep today 1/2 hour before a race is a f-n joke...but again, most get off on seeing cars run in a circle and thus promoters get by with ripping folks off week after week.... Brownstown lost my $$$ years ago...

I remember going to Barren when they reopened in about 1980, and you were right. Bull and Pollick worked hard on that track and that water truck put out so much water that it poured clear down to the bottom every lap. And it stayed tacky ALL night. At that time they had the best race track I've ever been to. In fact those races in the early eighties were the best I've ever been too period, anywhere.

B town just doesn't seem like the track it once was. No news there, but its a shame.

Growing up watching races at Barren County ruined me I guess... Like most things in life, nothing is as good as it used to be...we now accept everything as disposable and dirt tracks are on that list...many are gone due to money hungry promoters pissing decent tracks away, and many have been disposed by me personally...the sport will dwindle to a sad state over the next 20 years when the true dedicated fans are gone...

We used to see and talk to Hollis at Barren. I miss that guy.

Dang, I was looking for somewhere to go this weekend if Magnolia rains out, and thought the Jackson 100 would be the next best option (I have never been to Brownstown). This thread has me worried though...

I've paid $30 to see some races at B-town that I would have paid $100 to see.. If you have never been it's still pretty cool racetrack so I'd say GO

Yea, and you can also drive down to the HorseShoe casino in New Albany and play a slot machine your chances are about the same in seeing a good race as they are in hitting a jackpot...its a true gamble...

But I will agree, I've seen some races that were worth triple the cost of admission but, that was years ago...

I'm driving nearly 4 hours to Eldora for the quadruple header of push and flip 'em cars (well one class doesn't HAVE to be pushed) instead of the hour and a half to Brownstown for Lucas Oil. Just sayin'.
